Brooks Kohler Does anyone know if there are any Indie writer gatherings happening in America? I'm thinking of something with a conference vibe where writers can set up booths and meet the public.

Thanks for any info.

Best,
Brooks

Jason Crawford (jasonpatrickcrawford) | 565 comments There are lots of festivals where indie authors can participate. For example, this year was the first year that the LA Times Festival of Books welcomed indies, and that was quite an experience for me :)

Brooks Kohler Thanks for the info. I'm thinking along the lines of a craft fair sort of event whereby a part of a mall or convention center is open to the public to visit. The Authors pay a small fee and set up their books.

Would anyone be interested in something like this if it existed? I'm an author myself and live in Illinois. So, I'm thinking somewhere within the United States, but their could also be other locations if folks could come together to work out the details.

I would absolutely love to attend an indie writer's or author event. I've been looking into it but there's usually never anything like that near me in Massachusetts. I've seen some in Boston and even further from there but I have no way of getting there but I intend to keep my eye open.

Perhaps I'll take a trip to another state to attend another event, that would be awesome.

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) There are plenty of events like that. Check your local stores, coffee shops, libraries, etc.

Brooks Kohler I used to work in Nashville, TN. Would be nice to get one there or nearby in Franklin.

Would any authors be interested in attending a function in Nashville?

If it were legitimate enough, reasonable in price and I had a way of getting there, sure!

Anne Berkeley (aberkeley) Tons. Look for them on facebook. I did one last month. I have one in November and another in March 2016. They plan them out well in advance because they need to book the conference centers. The latest one I signed on for is in NY in June or July 2017. Most tables seem to cost from 100 to 150 a piece. Some, I've seen they've tried to hold promotion events so that tables are free. But think of it as an investment. you hand cards out, bookmarks, and get your name out there.
