Lindsay | 80 comments A male vampire can only have children after he is Blooded and has sex with his Bride for the first time. So how did Lothaire's father get his mother pregnant? Ivana was not his Bride. How was he able to have sex and impregnate someone when he had not found his Bride yet?

Kira | 11 comments As far as I remember Lothaire's mother blooded his father. Hence He was born. It's not exactly per se that a vampire needs to marry a girl, they just only be needed to be blooded for their sensuality to be awaken.

I thought Kritoff's mother was Lothaire's father's Bride, and that was why Kristoff had a more legitimate claim to the throne.

Wasn't Ivana Lothaire's father's concubine or something? I don't think they were legally together. He abandoned them and that was part of why Lothaire wanted revenge.

Lucy (tigerlilywarior) | 35 comments I think Ivana was much older than Stefanovich when they met.

It is a bit confusing because Stefanovich is seen as a very powerful vampire, which makes you think he must be very old.

However, he had to have Lothaire prior to him freezing into his immortality. Lothaire is not his legitimate heir because Ivana isn't his true bride.

Honestly, I read it as Stephan being so arrogant he thought only a princess like Ivana could be his true mate. And Ivana being charmed by the King of the Horde would be compelling enough to leave if she thought it might be true.

They might even have been happy when Lothaire was born. Stephan probably froze into his immortality shortly afterward. Once that happened as they say, the bloom was off the rose and their relationship soured.

By then, it was too late for Ivana to return and we see what happens a few years later....

hammerpixie | 31 comments Stefanovich's heart was still beating when Ivana met him as a natural born vampire's would've been.
He sired "a long line of bastards" before Lothaire.
His heart was still beating when Lothaire was nine years old because Stefanovich was not only drinking from the human Olya, but -to Ivana's disgust- he was having sex with Olya as well.
This timeline would've made Stefanovich very young (early to mid-twenties) when he met Ivana.
His heart must've stopped beating and he froze into his immortality shortly after he cast out Ivana and Lothaire .
Fyodor noticed Stefanovich's heart was beating during Lothaire's torture session which was at least 600 years later as it was after Lothaire's stint in the blood root forest.
I'm not clear on how a still mortal, clear-eyed vampire (who hadn't yet located his Bride) was strong enough to rule the Horde at twenty-something years old.
