1. I really wanted to beat TS in marking by book complete! She is a reading fiend!
2. You all are a bad influence on me! I've read and loved two books that I normally would have walked away from because of language. For Shame.
3. This book was incredible. IN-CRED-I-BLE. Mark Watney was so fun to read about and I loved his logs. The amount of stuff that happened to him was intense, but he just fought all the way through.
4. I loved his iron man idea at the end. In my mind, he sparked the final piece that lead to his rescue. over and over he had creative and workable ideas when the best minds had nothing. Go Mark!

Argh, I lost!!! :P
Yes, that was an incredible book. And I can't wait for the movie!! The trailer looked so good, and come on, it's Matt Damon!
On #4, that idea was awesome and the way he tried to sell it - Iron Man, Commander, Iron Man - hilarious!! I did sort of wish he got to do that. He just comes up with the craziest amazing ideas, and as unsophisticated as some of them might be, who cares if it works!

Thank you, gracious kind sir!

the setting felt so real (i was dreaming of mars for the past two nights). the isolation, even the clastrophobia in the rover came across vividly. this was the most engrossing book i read this year. probably more than just this year.
i also really liked the Earth parts. each time mark would do something interesting, i would immediatly look forward to how NASA would react. and it was really engaging, not as much as mars but still.
i never found myself wanting to FF through any part. while i couldnt wait to see what was up with mark when air locke 1 detached, or when the rover flipped, i was also very intersted in the reactions on earth.
the only thing i had a TINY problem with was all the science. i simply dont have ANY background in science, so at times it was a bit difficult for me to stay on track. but i got most of it (now i can make rocket fuel from my pee... *mad-scientist-laugh*)
obivously, this is a 5*. my second ever sci-fi read, my second 5* sci-fi book (the 1st was leviathan wakes)... sensing a pattern... cant wait to see what the group comes up with for the next sci-fi month.

#4- isnt it embarrassing, when you laugh out loud in the bus, and everyone thinks youre crazy? and saying "oh, this guy in space, he wants to be iron man" wont help...
i had so many of those moments throughout the book...
good times...

I'm so happy you guys all loved the book and I am happy to say that I too (although being a little late to the party) really enjoyed picking this one up and giving it a whirl.
This is (I think) the first of the Sci-fi books we've read which I have loved throughly and given a 5* rating to. I was so emotionally involved with Mark by the end that the fact that he survived, and not just that, but was reunited with his crew... bawwwwwhhh (it just got me!)
I loved the perspective shifts, enjoyed the writing, and just found everything to be fast, fun and science-y. Whilst I have to agree with Ungar5 I don't have a science background I still found myself enjoying much of what was explained and loving the creative solutions Mark came up with.
The whole Iron man and Rocket Fuel piss etc was just hilarious and it just goes to show that it's all about staying positive and being resourceful. He's a funny guy, and if he was real I think he'd be a great one to hang out with!
As for the film I too am now certainly interested in checking it out and I think if it's anything like the book it'll be awesome. Can't wait and thank you all once more for taking part in this buddy read :D
