August is an indigenous theme, so we need some book nominations. Let us know what book you are suggesting.

Rules
* can't nominate your own book
* only one nomination per person
* first 6-8 books will be chosen
* need to tell us why you are suggesting this book
* be respectful of other people's choices

suggestions can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/genres/indi...

message 2: by Sam (new)

Sam (aramsamsam) I nominate The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. I've heard the most interesting things about this one. It seems to be a book about serious topics that is yet easy to read.

message 3: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 1 comments I nominate The Orenda by Joseph Boyden. It deals with the arrival of the Jesuits amongst the Huron. I read it in February, loved it, and have been recommending it to friends ever since.

message 4: by Janet (new)

Janet (goodreadscomjanetj) | 86 comments I nominate The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper. A classic book, it is "a moving portrayal of a vanishing race and the end of its way of life in the great American forests".

message 5: by Nancy (last edited Jun 01, 2015 02:21PM) (new)

Nancy (nantown) | 46 comments I nominate The Round House by Louise Erdich. This is a good story of life on the reservation today.

message 6: by Laurie (last edited Jun 01, 2015 04:23PM) (new)

Laurie I nominate Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden which is about two Canadian native Americans who fight in WWI and their lives after they come home.

message 7: by Tawallah (new)

Tawallah I nominate The Splendour Of Silence which deals with a forbidden romance in India during 1942. Romance is between, Mila the daughter of a political agent- black Indian and an American Sam Hawthorne. It captures the life in India at that time with all its prejudices on both sides.
