Just started reading, having never read Pratchett before

I LOVE his writing style. I found myself chuckling quite a few times at things

It's quite a fresh breath of air to the so serious genre if fantasy, I will look forward to reading the rest of this book.

Just waiting for it to come off hold at the library

I read The Colour of Magic earlier this year and ended up giving it 3 stars, mostly because I ended up not liking Twoflowers (Rincewind was funny) and also for some other things I found a bit annoying. I still liked it more than Small Gods, my first Pratchett book ever, which was more boring and somehow tedious to read, even if I remember giving it 3 stars in the end, too.

I'm not sure if I'm going to read The Light Fantastic, as I was planning on reading Mort later the year and I think that's enough Pratchett for me for this year as I've read Good Omens this year, too and plan on reading The Long Earth as well, if I have time.

I found the first 100 something pages of the first book rather boring but after that it got better and I enjoyed it. But CoM also got only 3 stars from me.
I didnt like the second one so much, I couldn't really enjoy or get into it.
But I read that the first three were not so good compared to the later ones. So I bought Mort (4th one) and hope for the best.

The early books really are quite different from the later ones. Much more heavily parody. For instance, you can id the first three stories in Colour as being Fritz Leiber's Fahred and the Grey Mouser, Robert E. Howard's Conan, and Anne McCaffrey's Pern.

Better or worse depends on what you like.

I am not sure yet what I think. I am reading the 1st book - and I did get a couple of giggles (the "Big Bang Hyothesis" got me right away), but I am not sure that parody of fantasy is my thing. However, I won't give up... I'll keep at it with an open mind! :)

I really liked the parody part of the first book about the mentioned books (which I haven't read). It was just the first part about how the two adventurers sit on top of the hill as the city burns down, which i disliked or didn't get. The rest was fabulous.
In the second one I didn't get any of the references I guess because didn't get into it at all.

I still remember first coming across The Color Of Magic and being amazed at it, how it made me laugh so hard. And now, whenIi go back to read it years later it is obviously nowhere near as wonderful as I thought it was. But that is because he got so much better at doing something he was already good at.

Halfway into the Colour of Magic. I am familiar with Pratchett, even met him some years back and got The Last Continent signed. Haven't read any Discworld in quite a long time. This is a good way to come back to it.

Silly question - where is the Spoiler discussion for The Light Fantastic? I only see one for the Colour of Magic, but I've finished both.

About 100 pages in. This is my first Pratchett novel, and so far it seems a bit TOO silly for me. I appreciate it for what it is, but I'm not sure it's my style. I'll have to see how the rest of the book goes.

In some respects this is not typical Pratchett; it's very heavy on the parody.

Started The Colour of Magic today. So far I am really enjoying it. Love the parodies and puns.

The book were reading is actually both books combined, as they are parts one and two of the story.
