Let's discuss the first 5 chapters! Spoilers are welcome (this is a discussion after all) but please, don't skip ahead! :D

What does everyone think so far? About the setting, characters, plot, etc?

Andrea Childers (basementghost18) I was excited to read this & now I've heard so many less than great things about this book. That really gets to me when I try to read something so many other people dislike. But I am going to see for myself. So far Lara Jean honestly makes me feel like I'm in the mind of a girl that is in 8th grade rather than 10th & that is my only dislike as of now. But I really like how it pulled me at the end of chapter 5, I was not expecting Lara Jean to be in love with Josh. I must be bad at predicting things but I didn't see it coming. I really like Kitty and I love the whole sisterly dynamic going on between the three girls.

Madison DeJulio I really like this book so far. The thing I like a lot is her relationship with her sisters. They're pretty much inseparable which I think is so sweet. Lara is a bit childish to me and just a little bit whiny which is kind of annoying but at times I can get past that. But she is very sweet as well. I'm looking forward to reading more!

message 5: by Christine (new)

Christine (cmfbrooks) | 2 comments I am enjoying this story so far. I really like the relationship between sisters. I understand people's displeasure with Lara's lack of maturity but I think losing your mother at an early age must really be tough. I also did not see the "Josh thing" either so I was very surprised. Good start.

message 6: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Childers (basementghost18) I guess I did not even think of that Christine, of course usually when you only have your father you may not be taught how to be a woman, and become more mature at that age. She might be in that mindset cause you know most girls are daddy's "little girl", the mother is the one that's supposed to cover the maturity that she seems to be lacking. In my opinion. But Margo seems to do such a great job that I wonder how Margo wouldn't have helped her in that department like she has taken care of so much else in the motherly role.

Shannon Cody | 6 comments Why does everyone think Lara is childish? To me she just seems sad that her sister is leaving which is understandable.

message 8: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Childers (basementghost18) I guess I mean her train of thought gives me child vibes, I feel like I'm in the mind of an 8th grader. And it is a young adult book, I guess it just accents the "young" more than some other YA books I've read. Either way, I wouldn't dismiss the book on that basis because I understand that would be easy to relate to in a teenage perspective. I'm no longer a teenager so I can't relate really but I enjoy the story.

message 9: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth I'm liking the book so far. The plot line isn't gripping ( I mean it's only chapter 5) but it is interesting. I like our cast of characters too. It's feels realistic to me. I like Margo and Lara Jean is really sweet. I feel a connection to both of them. Lara is not coming across as childish to me as some others have said. This may be because I've had a parent die so I get a bit more where she is coming from. When someone dies you get really close to the family you have left; which is why Lara is having a hard time with Margo going away. I'm really excited to read more of this book!

message 10: by Juliet (new)

Juliet | 30 comments So far it is good. But yeah it is only 5 chapters so not much has happened yet. She hasn't even written a letter yet. But now its cute so far. It feel it little younger than high school some times because of the nicknames. And how she call her dad "daddy" its cute but young sounding. Yeah it does have realistic feel to it. The boy is realistic to which is nice in a refreshing way. I can't wait to read more!

message 11: by Alex (new)

Alex Espino (heretherebeareader) | 16 comments The book is really sweet so far. I love Lara Jean's relationship with her. My only complaint so far is Lara Jean referring to her parents as Mommy and Daddy. It makes her sound like she's Kitty's age not sixteen.

message 12: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Childers (basementghost18) I agree Alex. That's probably why I feel like I'm in a child's mind. I haven't called my parents that since I was 9 or 10.

message 13: by Juliet (new)

Juliet | 30 comments yeah thats what i thought too.

message 14: by Becca (new)

Becca Brandner (beccabrandner) Re-reading this one with you guys so I can begin P.S. I Still Love You right after. I read this not even a year ago so I remember most of what has happened.

I want to point out that I love the Song girls relationships with one another! I wish I had that kind of bond with my sister growing up.

My heart goes out to Margot and how she had to sort of take the role of their mother who passed away and step into her shoes. Plus, she being the one to find their mother dead and having to deal with all of that and be the 'adult' when she was only twelve. (page 9)

I loved that it said when their dad comes home from a delivering a baby he makes sure to get the first and middle name of the baby. (page 13) Mostly I love that because the doctor that delivered Wyatt made sure to ask for his first and middle name!

Andrea Childers (basementghost18) I can't see any comments from Jessica (priceiswong) but I keep getting notifications that she commented on this thread. Anyone else have this problem?

Alisha Laurit (alishaherbooks) | 34 comments It's cute so far. I really like the relationship between the sisters. I am interesting in seeing how losing her mom plays into the rest of the story! I also think Laura seems kind of young, but maybe I just forgot about it was like to be 16? Haha. I totally saw the fact that she was in love with Josh, idk why lol. It was just obvious to me. Excited to keep reading!

message 18: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (daniellecg) I'm enjoying this so far. The plot isn't really interesting (yet) but then it's only 5 chapters.
I really like the relationship between the sisters. Did not see the Josh thing coming either!
