Biana I didn't want to read a scary book. I tried to re-examine the criteria for this week thinking that maybe I could read a book that scared me in a completely different way. But in the end, that was more creative than my brain could handle. In my youth I read a lot of Stephen King and it was scary, but not terrifying (like Koontz!). And I can see that many people picked a book by Stephen King...so I looked through what I haven't read.

As you probably know, Richard Bachman is a pseudonym for King. And the style is a tad different. It's a futuristic style book...very like Philip K. Dick, actually.

The book wasn't scary. At no point was it scary. Well, I could stretch the definition and say that the future Bachman/King created wasn't attractive at all and I really REALLY hope we don't end up close to there. So, not scary but good.

My favorite part is where Bachman/King, in 1982 wrote about the future in 2025. We are now closer to the latter date than the original date and it's VERY interesting to see how he viewed the potential future. Cigarette smoking everywhere (including a plane?), hover cars, mainstream marijuana use, game shows ruling the airwaves, highly effective and used mail system...

Anyhow. Not scary, but good!
