That looks interesting. Old California. I don't think I've ever heard of this novel, but it sounds good.

I'd be up for reading Ramona if it gets chosen, but I'm having something of Hardy withdrawal after having watched the movie "Far From the Madding Crowd." (It was very good for an adaptation.)

I nominate Under the Greenwood Tree by Thomas Hardy

I nominate Jude The Obscure by Thomas Hardy.

The impression I got is that Under the Greenwood Tree is Hardy's lightest/happiest fare, whereas Jude the Obscure is at the opposite spectrum - Hardy weaving his most dismal tale.

I found the graph I saw that gave me this impression. Here's a pictorial graph of all his novels by how many deaths, murders, etc. It's a misery chart. Lol!

I haven't seen any Hardy adaptations excepting the new movie of Far From...

An Old Fashioned Girl is a fine pick. I would enjoy reading it again!

I think it would be nice to read something lighter, after the last few heavy reads (in support of my earlier nomination)
