By my count, we have June books and then three months of future books to select to get back up to where we usually are. Soooooo, it's time for some nomination volunteers

I thought, instead of or normal process, we would instead do 8 rounds of nominated books by different members - 4 sets of Science Fiction Books, 4 Sets of Fantasy books to catch up back up through September.

So, who's up for it? Where are my volunteers at? Pick a genre and a month, then start your list. There should be 4 to 6 books where at least 1 needs to have been published in the past 5 years; no self-promotion and no duplicated authors from the past 12-months list

Beyond that, the field is pretty wide open.

June Science Fiction - Greg
June Fantasy - Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier

July Science Fiction - Derek
July Fantasy - Geoffrey

August Science Fiction - Esther
August Fantasy - Kevin

September Science Fiction - Athena
September Fantasy - Ale

I'm planning on taking a fantasy month, but I'll let a couple of you pick first before I take one....

Ale (wasteofpaint) | 15 comments I'd like to take September, please and in fantasy. I'll put together a list today when I get home. Do I just submit it or message you it or what?

message 3: by Derek (new)

Derek (derek_broughton) June is too early but I can manage July. Fantasy or SF???? It's so hard to choose. Ah, well, since you and Ale are doing fantasy, I'll choose SF.

Athena Shardbearer | 12 comments I'll take September Sci-Fi. So we can not choose an sci-fi author from the linked list, right? I'll come up with a list of sci-fi books.

I'll take June Science Fiction on short notice.

I like to do fantasy for August if that is okay.

message 7: by Esther (new)

Esther I'm happy to do August science fiction.

message 8: by Derek (new)

Derek (derek_broughton) OK, here we go for the July SF list: from my SF Mystery/Crime shelf (and I was pleased to see that Dick, Chabon, Fforde and Lem were all on the last-twelve-month list, as it made choosing easier).

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency - coz it's funny
Distress - coz it's "hard" SF
Pattern Recognition - coz it's Gibson, and that should be enough!
Altered Carbon - coz This reviewer compared it to Michael Connelly's Harry Bosh (and he was right!)
Rule 34 - coz it's the last SF mystery I read
The Last Policeman - coz I really liked it AND it was published less than five years ago

This is perfect Thank you everyone. There is one open still - July Fantasy. Who wants it?

For you volunteers, as you get your list together, please send them to me and I'll start putting together the polls so we can vote are little hearts out ....

Maggie K I was going to say what happened to Daughter of the Forest???

I take it you will move to July then, Geoffrey??? If you need a spot filled, I will do one otherwise :)

message 14: by Christian (new)

Christian yeah, the June's fantasy irish theme had some good stuff in it.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, OK. I guess is was mid-poll when I evaporated. Yeah, so I'll take July then.

Honest, I didn't. It made my long-list, but not my short list. And it didn't make my short-list because one of my groups just read it a few months ago—I had actually thought it was this one, but didn't see Effinger on the last-12-months list.
