*Message to mods: I've never created a discussion in this group before so I hope this is okay. If it's not just let me know. I've put it in the Series folder because I hear a sequel is planned.*

So I finished this awesome book earlier this year named Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I've heard so many amazing things about it and in my opinion, the hype is well deserved. I thought I'd create this discussion and see if anyone else has read it, and what you thought of it. Would you want to go into the Oasis? Who was your favourite character? What do you think of the possibility of it becoming a series?

Please remember to hide you spoilers in spoiler tags so we can keep this topic open to people who haven't read the book yet. :)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 318 comments I haven't read it, but it's sitting in my room and is probably somewhere around the 5th in line to be read next. So I'll more than likely be back.

Thanks, Erin. :)

That's cool, Tommy! Hope you enjoy it.

Kim Anderson (kimmatski) OOOOOOOO. A sequel??? I loved this book! I know Ernest Cline has Armada coming out this month, but it's not a sequel to Ready Player One. But you've heard rumors of an ACTUAL sequel????!!!

OK, well this is really weird. I definitely remember when I first looked at the book on Goodreads it said 'Ready Player One (Ready Player One #1)', but now that seems to have vanished. And the untitled sequel I put on my Series Tracker has now turned into the first book in some trilogy Marissa Meyer is writing. Not really sure how that happened! Anyway, I did manage to find this quote online by the screenwriter of the movie:

"Ernie's working on a sequel to it [Ready Player One], and it is one of those great ideas that has endless possibilities. And to a certain extent, the longer it exists and the more Ernie thinks about it, the more he comes up with."

Personally I really like the book as a standalone and I think anything about what might have happened after the book ended would ruin it. But now that all evidence of a sequel have vanished from Goodreads, who knows of it will happen. My bets are on Ready Player Two for a title though!

Oh yeah, I've heard about Armada but I'm not sure if I want to read it. The only thing I've heard from somebody who has actually read it was that it was filled with as much geek-trivia as RPO, but the characters were kind of flat. I think I'm going to wait until I hear more about it before I decide whether I'm going to read it or not. Are you planning to read it? :)

Kim Anderson (kimmatski) I might give it a go. My library will be getting it on audio and I'm always looking for good things to listen to.

Ah, you know that's a good idea. I listened to Ready Player One on audiobook and loved that so hopefully this one will be just as good. I'll have to look it up.

Oh! Sometimes that happens when a book gets delayed or something - the number it's given goes to another book. I think it's to keep the servers in check so they don't get overwhelmed.

Ah, that'd explain it. Thanks, Erin. :)

You're welcome!

I have to read this book. I've been looking for it at used bookstores and thrift stores. :)

You must!! I'd be interested to hear what you think of it - it's actually been getting quite a lot of negative reviews lately from what I've seen, so that's been quite interesting.
