The Unexpected Enlightenment of Rachel Griffin is a YA book about a very unusual school, a secret magical school.

Our heroine has perfect memory. That is, she remembers every scene perfectly, even if she was magically prevented at the time from seeing things. This is one of the lesser abilities among the students.

And she makes friends and learns with them that there is something very odd about the universe. We can see that it's an alternate world -- and indeed, there's a good bit of evidence that it's an altered world, evidence even more obvious to the readers than to the characters.
