Not going anywhere at present. May have to pick another book and do this one as a buddy read sometime.

OK. Found another book on the "100 Best Books of All Time" list under PLAYS that is available through my library and not so LONG as Anna Karenina. (For that list I only need to read 1 book.)

HOWEVER, I also looked at the "Pulitzer Prize for Drama" list, for which I need to read 8 books. I found 7 in my local library, so now I have a decision to make. Read the one book or the 8 plays, of which I still have to find one more.

Can anyone tell me how good The Sound and the Fury is? I am in a reading slump and need something engaging.

On the other hand, the plays are right in line with the task of PLAYS. And, they are short and will give me a sense of accomplishment.

I can't help you about The Sound & the Fury, I've not read it.

Plays are usually quite short though so reading 8 plays will equate to about 3 average books?

It's really up to you though if you'd like to challenge yourself then I'd say go with the spirit of the task ;)

I decided to go with the plays for now. I have started with A Streetcar Named Desire. I have seen this play and found it really sad. Not sure how it will be reading it.

I was also able to find the eighth play at my local library. I will try to pick it up later this week.

I've had it on my TBR forever, so it's in my LOST list. Again (like Ulysses), I was considering listening to it in order to hear the accents.

Can't say anything yet about how engaging it is, but I've always thought Falkner was definitely worth reading.

So... Rolled the Modern Family for the second time, hah, I almost hated myself for setting up this task lol!

Here's one that I'll be reading for "2 babies"

Baby Twins Parents Needed by Teresa Carpenter
cute bubs! happily it's less than 200 pages... I'm hoping that it won't be sickeningly sweet ha ha ha

LynnB | 1769 comments I just re-rolled Profusion of Pages ... groaned, then realized at least it gives me leeway in what I read, which might actually make it one of the easiest of the not-so-easy challenges. I have 5 requested books at the library for which I am #1 on the waiting list, so I am figuring those will all become available to me (as usual) on the same day :)

Yes, I don't mind the pages one as it's easier to fit other challenges' books in but these cover ones are a killer!

I've finished that baby cover books lol... here's my short 'review'

"cute" just about sums it up though in terms of parenting 10 months' old twins & noting book is published less than 10 years ago, I wonder about the food they're feeding the babies: french fries & pancakes dusted in sugar! With all the healthy eating fad these days especially in regards to babies, it doesn't compute! Even if they're not experienced parents... common sense? Or maybe that's just me... I've fed my 10 months' old bub pancakes (cooked from scratch) but there's no sprinkling of anything on top!

I'm trying to do some planning for "e. The Modern Family (based on the series: 6 adults, 4 teens, & 2 toddlers/babies)"

Family by Isabell Monk

I count this as 4 adults, 3-4 teens, 1 toddler, and 1-2 preteens (who are irrelevant to the count). Tien, do you agree?

message 41: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
yes, definitely 4 adults, 3 teens & 1 toddler but as it's a little "gray" for the rest, I'm happy for you to take the count at 4 adults, 4 teens, & 2 toddlers... she seems to be about the same height at the one who's obviously a toddler so... close enough!

Oh, yay! Only 2 adults left to do, then, and those are easy (comparatively).

Oooooh, Coralie, you're sooo close!! Your last 2 slices though I see you have to read a minimum of 2,400 pages! :O

Good luck :D

Btw, I keep going back and forth on what book I should read for the antihero... does anyone have something they would recommend for everyone to read? I want to hear some very enthusiastic love for the book (5 stars and above)

Tien, I gave Broken Harbour by Tana French 5* but I would recommend any of her books in that series. Each can stand alone, although there is a connection. Highly recommend her writings.

message 48: by Coralie (new)

Coralie | 1658 comments From the four books on my TBR list that qualified I have chosen Anathem because it looked the most enjoyable and the easiest to renew from the library if necessary. (I didn't want to be stuck half-way through when it was due back unable to renew.)

I can't find any antihero books I've given five stars to (I'm a miserly rater) but I have enjoyed everything I have read by Brent Weeks and Joe Abercrombie. Or, if you want something a bit shorter The Shadow of the Torturer is weirdly interesting.

hhm, I always find his books sound to be complicated & hard to follow though Snow Crash was fun!
