Jeff Stanger (jeffstanger) What 2015 baseball books have you read this year? Which ones did you like? Not like?

Michael Linn | 11288 comments I read "WILLIE`S BOYS " by John Klima, and thought it an excellent history of the Negro leagues & tracking a young Willie Mays to the majors. I also read " RICKEY & ROBINSON " & as an old Brooklynite in that era, enjoyed reliving & learning anew. I`m currently reading Kotsya Kennedy`s Pete Rose book. Kennedy is such a talented writer, that I would read most anything he has his name on. If you`re interested in books from the past, ask away, you`ll get many different response here... Welcome
Mike Linn

Jeff Stanger (jeffstanger) Thanks, Mike. I'm wondering if in light of the Pete Rose news this week, we will see yet another round of Rose related books. I'll add Willie's Boys to my list.

Harold Kasselman | 19190 comments Try 56 by Kennedy as well-about DiMaggio's streak and the culture of the times

Assuming this question is about books published in 2015, I really liked "Split Season" about the 1981 season and "The Game" about Selig l, Fehr, and Steinbrenner. As a Twins fan, I also enjoyed the biography of Tony Oliva.

Michael Linn | 11288 comments I just responded to my most recent reads. We have a ton more Jeff among us. And yes, the Kennedy book on DiMaggio is tops

Doubledf99.99 | 1460 comments Read Leershen's book Ty Cobb A Terrible Beauty, I enjoyed reading about baseball in the 1900-1914 years. Did like the tidbit on what happened to Cobb on one of his first headfirst slides..

Jeff Stanger (jeffstanger) Thanks, there are some good suggestions here and please feel free to add more. I'm trying to get a sense of what authors we should invite to next year's Baseball Book Festival. Has anyone read any fiction/baseball titles from 2015 they would recommend?

Approaching Twi-Night by M. Thomas Apple

This a pretty good read about a career minor leaguer pitcher who finds himself back to his hometown in Class A ball. The book has very good smalltown feel, with some good characters, chemistry of the team, pranks, and games. Some good passages on the interaction of the pitcher and the catcher.

Through many recommendations from this group, I requested a copy of Billy Martin: Baseball's Flawed Genius and it came tonight. Probably another one to add to your list.

Mike (mike9) | 6454 comments The Colonel and Hug is a great read that came out this year. It takes you back to the beginning of the Yankee Dynasty.

"One Night in October" by Chad Cain is one I highly recommend. Also, I just recieved a copy today of "Paint it Black" by JD Dudycha. Have not started it yet.

Think I am going to have to skip work for a month and lock myself in to read all these!

Lance- Thanks for all the suggestions. Yeah, I'm going to have to figure a way to work all these in around that pesky day job!

Ashley Marie | 2068 comments I think my only baseball read this year was Glory Days in Tribe Town: The Cleveland Indians and Jacobs Field 1994-1997. Gonna make a point to read a few more in 2016! I still have Joe Torre's book and The Boys of Summer staring at me waiting on the shelf.

Harold Kasselman | 19190 comments You may be too young to appreciate The Boys of Summer but for us old men it was a great book.

One of the best books about baseball . . . and the Dodgers.

Harold Kasselman | 19190 comments My novel, a combination legal thriller and baseball tragedy is on sale for $0.99-down from $3.99. This novel asks the question when unwritten rules of baseball cross the line into criminality. I hope you'll take a look. It's available only on Amazon
