Graphic novels have really become a more mainstream genre so much more then just super heroes. In fact a lot of popular novels are also making a graphic novel version such as Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist. The Alchemist A Graphic Novel by Paulo Coelho

Rebecca (rebec) | 12 comments I just started "Y: The Last Man" by Brian Vaughan, which has been on my 'to read' list for a while.
Y The Last Man - The Deluxe Edition Book One by Brian K. Vaughan .
This story is about a world where all the males die (except for a man and a monkey so far). I haven't read many graphic novels, but I'm enjoying this one and think the format really adds to the story.

Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant by Roz Chast is s a memoir in graphic format, and a surprise hit with me. The author takes a serious, rather depressing subject (aging parents) and makes it humorous (though still rather heartbreaking).

Lisa Kushner | 2 comments Being a huge fan of the TV series, I've enjoyed reading the Walking Dead graphic novel series. I find it fascinating to compare the differences in the story arcs between the two formats.

Hi Lisa,

I hear you. Rumor is the season 6 big bad is straight out of the comics. However I like where they deviate cause what would the show be without Daryl and he was never in the comics.

Hi, I picked this book following a recommendation from the library's Staff Picks. It was a riveting read! Good Riddance An Illustrated Memoir of Divorce by Cynthia Copeland

Ross2075 | 8 comments There are a few graphic novels by author Neil Gaiman that should be on this list.

Coraline by Neil Gaiman &
The Sandman, Vol. 1 Preludes and Nocturnes (The Sandman, #1) by Neil Gaiman

Hey Ross,

Yes Gaiman's books are great in any format.

Here's one just in time for Halloween -
My Friend Dahmer by Derf Backderf
Warning: this graphic novel is a riveting read but quite disturbing. It's based on the true story about the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and written and illustrated by someone who knew him casually in school. I could not put the book down once I started it and the story continued to haunt me many days past its finish..
