11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments I'm in. Gotta wait a couple days for an Audible credit.

Char | 17459 comments I'm interested to hear what you think of it. I just finished it on Saturday. (Well, finished reading it, not listening.)

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments I did the first two Matthew Corbett books on audio and both were excellent. I expect this will be the same production quality. Hope so.

Harold H. | 4 comments I think I'm going to come in on this, but it'll be a week before I start (got to finish the book I'm reading and it's long as hell). I've never read McCammon, and so I think I'm overdue for one of his books.

Ouch! The Wise Man's Fear. That one was long as hell. I think I skimmed the last 200 pages, desperate for it to finally end.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin | 2262 comments I need to try audible at some point :-/

Robert Mingee (robertmingee) | 776 comments I'm in! I started it over the weekend, and should get through it fairly quickly if I can keep up regular workouts (motivation to go to the gym :-). I bought it with absolutely no idea what it was about, since I really like McCammon's work, and it won the poll. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't aliens. Not a bad thing, just a surprise. :-) Took a little bit to get into it, but I'm hooked now!

message 10: by Char (new) - rated it 4 stars

Char | 17459 comments It's more of a sci-fi novel than anything else. I hope that it works for you. :)

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments I started today. Only at 10% but I'm optimistic this is gonna be a good one.

Robert Mingee (robertmingee) | 776 comments I finished it this morning, and posted a review. Unfortunatelty, it was just too far outside my usual preferences for me to really be engaged by it. The writing was very good, and I never considered stopping it, but I found my mind wandering a lot as I listened. Maybe this is one I'd have had better luck actually reading, especially since I didn't find the narrator particularly engaging. Hope everyone else has a better experience with it. I don't regret listening, I just wish I'd gotten more drawn into it.

I'm halfway and leaning 3 stars so far. The similarities to Swan Song are obvious and to me it's a little too similar, like a different version of the same story. I'm still enjoying the writing, mostly, but the story is so-so. I'm getting a little bored with it but I'll keep going for now.

Char | 17459 comments Aww. :(

message 16: by Aden (new) - rated it 2 stars

Aden | 44 comments I finished today. I'm leaning toward 2-3 stars. It was difficult to remain attentive as the scenario became more and more convoluted. Really it seemed forced and we had to take some pretty big leaps to stay on track. I'm going to let it settle a bit before I post a review.

Robert Mingee (robertmingee) | 776 comments Hmm, so I guess it wasn't just me struggling to remain focused on it. I even thought maybe I was just getting burned out on audiobooks temporarily, but I started listening to Fear City right after The Border and it's holding my attention pretty well. I do think the narrator was somewhat of a factor for me as well. Sorry, Charlene, I know you really like this one :-(

Char | 17459 comments I thought the book was pretty good, (I don't have the audio), but I was disappointed with the ending. I didn't like it at all.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments I gave up. I think the narrator contributed to my decision to give up but it wasn't just that. Something about the kid in this story got on my nerves. Every time he spoke, I wanted to smack him. I wanted to smack a lot of people though so I partially blame the narrator and his multitude of archetype vocal gymnastics. Every character sounded like an every-character.
