Svein | 7 comments Is this the age of the author at the time of the release or today? I have read Hunger by Hamsun, but he isn't even alive anymore ;)

Nicole (aggie44) | 79 comments Oh, time of release, definitely!

Nicole (aggie44) | 79 comments At least, that's how I interpreted it.

Athol-mary | 11 comments Definitely time of release. Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein at 21, nearly 200 years ago.

The theme of this group is, if you can plausibly make it fit, it fits so if you'd say time of release (an you've got back-up here!) then that's good, if you want to read something by someone currently under 30, there's options for that too!

Heather I read The Bell Jar for this. I think it was published after she was 30, but written before.

Valerie | 39 comments Since the line says "a book written by someone under 30" I took it to be written, not published. If they had wanted it to be published by someone under 30I think it would have said 'book published by someone under 30.' For a lot of the choices, however, they go both ways.

My particular opinion is, the point of the challenge is to go out of comfort zones, and to read more. If you did it by published, no big deal. It is YOUR challenge, and YOU know what is challenging you. It is suppose to be fun, not that Bataan Death March.
