1) While this may be the cop-out answer, I do think Echo's sacrifice was a little bit of both bravery and desperation. I think Echo has this instilled bravery that she doesn't fully realize is there or that other people don't have that inclination. She knew that to save her friends, she had to sacrifice herself, there was no other way. With that in mind, she did what she had to do. So, we can call it brave desperation or desperately brave.
2) In the sequel, I want to see the reaction Echo gets from the Avicen after having killed Ruby. We really didn't get to see anyone have to cope with that loss because the rest of the story really picked up after that event. I think there will be a great divide among the Avicen in how Echo is received because she committed this heinous act, but now she also embodies the firebird.
I'm also interested to see what happens with Rowan because we haven't seen him since Ruby's death, and that has to be weighing heavily on him. It will be a huge impact on Echo's life, whichever way he decides to deal with it.
Finally, I'm curious to see who else will be tagging along with Echo as she is trying to decide the best course of action in order to end the war. I would love to see more of Ivy for sure, and I'm certain we'll see a lot of Caius as well. It will also be interesting to see what happens with Dorian and Jasper. We could even meet some new characters -- though I hope that we still see enough of the characters from the end of this one because all of their stories were left open-ended, and I would hate to simply have to leave all that behind.

Here are our discussion questions:
1) Ivy describes Echo's self-sacrifice as brave while Echo believes she was simply desperate. How would you qualify it and why?
2) What do you expect or want to see in the sequel?
