I'm just preparing to start work on an edit job, and the author mentioned she had some problems because she had used the symbols *** as section breaks inside her chapters. Apparently that messed up the formatting. She wants to indicate section breaks, because this is a stream-of-consciousness story and confusing enough as it is, but isn't sure how to go about creating something simple to indicate that break, other than a simple space (and IMO that isn't enough). I don't know diddly squat about formatting. Anyone out there have any ideas they can point me at?
(As you know) I use those 3 asterisks as section breaks... they seem to come out fine on Kindle. I upload the word.doc saved as html to KDP - and the Smashwords meatgrinder works just fine as well. What is she uploading?
I format books for ebook and print-on-demand publishing. I will be happy to format her book. My prices are reasonable and depend on the number of words of the manuscript. Let me know if this interests you, and if so, the number of words of the manuscript, and I'll be able to quote you a price for formatting in which you can check with her to see if she'd be interested. This is my website.
The book is 40,635 words right now, subject to change if she makes changes to the end result. I'll touch bases with her and see if she'd want that or not.
I haven't had any problems using asterisks. However, I suggest using spaces instead of tabs between asterisks and using styles instead of just simply centering it.
Thanks!
