Some publishing houses will not accept a book if has been previously published. Posting your work online "is" considered being published.
However, if you only post excerpts of your novel it should be ok :]
I personally would not post a whole story online. But, that is just my feelings.
Thanks for clearing that up Dee, I didn't want to post any of my stuff for two reasons, I wanted to publish it, and I don't want anyone 'stealing' even though I don't know why anybody would want to do that with my writing...
