So this book won the vote. Who has started/buying/loaning? I have it on the Kindle, just charging it up now as it's not been used for a few month hehe!

Kirsty (kirkel) | 1162 comments Mod
I put it on my kindle. Can't believe it's only 20p:)

Sam (VanillaFountain) | 577 comments Mod
I know bargain right? I have half battery so i'll start tonight :)

I got it for 20p too, thanks Sam. Am also charging my kindle and will make a start on it later

Sam (VanillaFountain) | 577 comments Mod
Awesome! :) I've started only on 1% pretty easy to read so far :)

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments I also have it on Kindle from Christmas time. Will start next week when I'll have finished the book I'm currently on :)

I downloaded it some weeks ago for 20p ... will start it this week. I was a bit put off at first as a colleague of mine was reading and hated it although she carried on to the end but said it was too far-fetched ... anyway I might really like it! there's great reviews from others, so I'm happy to give it a go :)

Kirsty (kirkel) | 1162 comments Mod
I thought I better start it next and I'm more than 1/4 in. Now I really want to get on with it and find out what happens:)

Kirsty (kirkel) | 1162 comments Mod
oh and it's a nice, light read for anyone who fancies joining in. It has a lighthearted humour and the main characters past remind me of Forrest Gump - full of coincidental meetings with historical figures.

Karen | 120 comments I've just started reading it - it's rather descriptive, and it makes for a very light read. I agree with Kirsty that it reminds the reader of Forrest Gump...

Could you put this in the spoiler thread (just a wee bit spoilerish but will be good at getting the spoiler thread started up a bit:)

Good to see you're enjoying it - I know I've enjoyed it progressively more:D

Kirsty (kirkel) | 1162 comments Mod
It really picks up and is quite a nice, charming, read:)

FebruaryStars | 22 comments I've just started reading this. I didn't think it would be my kind of thing but thought I would give it a go for 20p. I'm liking it so far though. A nice easy, light hearted read and it's giving my brain a break from Dune which I thought would be great but I'm having trouble getting into it.

Abiswift | 6 comments I have this book, and I nominated it! It's been sitting on my chair arm for a week or more already, with the bookmark in the first page. I will start it this week!

Michelle | 30 comments I'm still on the waiting list at my library for the ebook. When does the group read end for this, in April?

Karen | 120 comments Moved my comment - my bad.

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments Up to 8% Finding it alright but a bit repetitive.

I would guess it would be the end of April since we decided to go bi-monthly... Kirsty please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm finding it slow going, do you have a kindle Michelle? xx

message 21: by Liz (new)

Liz | 50 comments I am finding it slow going too - a bit too light, I can't really get my teeth into it enough to keep reading when I get interrupted (which is often!). The writing style kind of annoys me, not entirely sure why. A bit... offhand and ironic. Or something.

Sam (VanillaFountain) | 577 comments Mod
I have been the same Liz! Although I have to say I put it to one side while I was studying for the theory test, so that has put me behind. I'm at 42% but hope to finish soon as my lovely folio society copy of The Hobbit has arrived and I can't wait to read it :)

Kirsty (kirkel) | 1162 comments Mod
I enjoyed the historical facts but when i read The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry it really made realise the contrast. Harold Fry is a character who will stay with me and his story has something to teach all of us.

Sam (VanillaFountain) | 577 comments Mod
I know this book is sooo slow. I am still pushing on now at 54% after pausing to read The Southern Vampire Mysteries. Anyone still pushing on with me or did everyone give up? ;)

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments I read it all. Was so slow. Parts were funny but wouldn't recommend finishing personally unless you're loving it now.

Sam (VanillaFountain) | 577 comments Mod
Haha! Thanks Aimee, no I am also finding it boring but I have only ever given up on two books and I really don't want to have more on the list. I'll keep going :-)

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments I was the same. It was like treading through treacle but I got to the end! Good luck :)

Sam (VanillaFountain) | 577 comments Mod
Yeah same here, thank you! :-)

Kirsty (kirkel) | 1162 comments Mod
I think you should read it until we vote the next read in and then put it on hold until you've finished the group read (I would say that though wouldn't I - mwah, hah hah ;). You never know you might get through it better when you've had a break from it's sameness. I did post on this thread that is picks up and I think it does a little. I read Harold Fry after it just made me sad at the fact that The 100 year old man could have been so much better.
