Topic: Places to find books cheap...

If you are having trouble getting the book group reads and would like to find them at cheaper places, try these places online...

*Library-(Free)
*Paperbackswap.com
*Titletrader.com
*Half.com
*Ebay.com
*Amazon.com

If you own a *Kindle or *Nook there are alot of times books are offered free or free for a limited time.

bookdepository.com is quite often cheaper than amazon, but I always compare prices because sometimes amazon is cheaper.

Tui Allen (tuibird) | 393 comments But you have to remember to include the postage costs in your comparisons, if buying print books. Sometimes Book Depository is cheaper even when it's more expensive because of the postage.

Book depository has free shipping but there are some taxes. My most recent order was $97 and it came out to $98 in the end.

Well, they aren't exactly free. You have to pay for postage if sending. And, you are giving up one of our own books to get a credit.

Also, if getting a book and you don't have credits, you have to buy a credit for about $3.50. So not totally free but close.

I know on paperbackswap anyway. I never used the other one.

Tui Allen (tuibird) | 393 comments The wonderful thing about e-books is that most of the out of copyright books have a permanently free version. Out of copyright books includes all book by authors who are long enough deceased that their books are now in the public domain so it means all the great classics. Here are a few great free animal classics:

Black Beauty:
http://www.amazon.com/Black-Beauty-eb...
Call of the Wild:
http://www.amazon.com/The-Call-Wild-e...
White Fang:
http://www.amazon.com/White-Fang-eboo...
Moby Dick:
http://www.amazon.com/Moby-Dick-White...
The Wind in the Willows:
http://www.amazon.com/The-Wind-Willow...

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) This book is free on the kindle app today in the uk, you can try changing .co.uk for your country's extension and see if you can get it as well.

Endal: How One Extraordinary Dog Brought a Family Back from the Brink
Allen Parton was seriously injured while serving in the Gulf War. He was angry, bitter and unable to talk. Until a chance encounter with a Labrador puppy - Endal. They 'adopted' each other, and Endal became Allen's reason to communicate with the outside world, to come to terms with his injuries, and to want to live again.

Just checked on it, not free for US users, at least not right now. I've still added it to my "to-read" list though, sounds like a great book.

CindySR (neyankee) I get tons of books from thrift stores and used book stores. It's the old fashioned way but you'd be surprised what you can find! Usually not the most recently published titles, though.

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) Every day i select a few of the daily free books and add them to my blog. I had been doing this for almost 2 years on the amazon forum, then decided to make my own blog last week.

https://freekindlebooksoftheday.wordp...

If you see a book you like, try substituting the .co.uk for .com to see if it is available to you if you live in the US or use your country's code if you live elsewhere. Today I have found The Elephants' Choice: A Lonely Little English Girl Finds Love and Friendship in 1950s India

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) I update my blog every day and there have been some animal books on it but there is a rather special one I've noticed free today

Ripple by our own Tui Allen

uk: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0...
us: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N...

Twenty million years ago, powers of the universe allow an ancient spirit one final chance to achieve a mysterious intellectual purpose, by incarnating it as a dolphin on the planet Azure (Earth.) The spirit is born as Ripple, a vulnerable female with a seeming tendency to insanity. She falls for the scarred fighter-dolphin Cosmo and love inspires her to achieve her purpose. But before she can communicate her discovery, she must overcome terrific odds among the terrors and tragedies of the ancient oceans. If she can succeed, the universe will change forever, and allow dolphins to profoundly affect the yet-to-evolve human race.
Ripple is an inspirational story in the Visionary and Metaphysical Fiction genre. It can also be firmly classed as mind/body/spirit fiction, (MBS) or marine environmental fantasy.
The print version of this unique New Zealand book was selected by the NZ Society of Authors to represent it at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2012, New Zealand's year as "Country of Honour" at the fair. Ripple is already attracting critical acclaim from reviewers around the world and is often favourably compared to Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
Now translated and traditionally published as a hardcover print edition in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Used bookstores! They're cheap, and you never know what you'll find.

Kim Hampton | 180 comments If you are a Facebook member, check and see if there are any local book pages on there. We have one set up for the county I live in, and people can post what they are looking for, any books they have for sale, or things they want to trade. We also have yard sale sites for my county and the surrounding ones where you can find great deals on books and a ton of other stuff. I bought some Junie B. Jones books for my daughter, 10 books for $5.

Skye | 193 comments At lulu.com, books are 35% off thru the 3rd. Code is WQT32. Print books only.

Is Lulu the print-on-demand thing?

yes Skye. I don't know if they have other books from other companies, but they are a self publishing company.

Melissa Eisenmeier (carpelibrumbooks) | 41 comments Used bookstores for sure. Many let you bring in books for store credit, and if you're lucky, you don't have to pay anything at all.
