The Journals? Thoughts . . .

Jenny I am sort of annoyed when an author does this - I get they have to make an income, I do . . . but do you think we really HAVE to buy the Journals? There are 5?!

According to her website http://www.lisareneejones.com/reading..., she lays out how we should read them . . . while waiting forever for Being Me to come out.

Curious what your thoughts are on this? Are you going to read them?

Paris (kerbytejas) i think its a great idea to keep the story alive and fill in some of the wait between books. it helps to keep the story in the forefront...build on some of the mystery of who Rebecca's man is/was???
Although from what I have read that part of the story will be resolved in book 2

I've read the first two - they are short - but it works for me

Jenny Good point . . . I was feeling like I would def have to re-read IFWY since I have read like 20 books since then! lol.

Resolved in Part 2 huh . . . interesting.

Re Loved the story, not so interested in the journals. I want the real deal!! No offense intended.

~IreneOust~ OK, when I first read If I Were You, I was super excited about the trilogy. Now that it's sequel has been pushed back TWICE, I am getting a little annoyed. I get that it takes time, etc. but almost a year between books? Really?? Also, on her blog, Lisa said that she is pushing back the release dates in order to finish some other stuff she is working on. Meanwhile, one of her other books that I've been waiting for FOREVER not only gets it's release date pushed back (AGAIN!) but we get in 5 (I think) parts??? WTF?
Now onto the journals ... I was excited at first to read them but now that I've started to read the first one, I completely lost interest after a few pages because I can't flipping remember anything about the book so now I am going to have read the book again (not that I mind because the story is awesome!) so I left it for now. And I am sure with Starz picking up If I Were You for a TV show, we'll probably have to wait even longer for the last and final book in the trilogy. I just hope there isn't a year wait between episodes of the show. Just sayin' ...

Irene: I was worried I would get "lost" due to the first book already having so many character and then add in the Journals, which is a different POV and the mystery Dom/Master.

I didn't realize it was pushed back so LONG but you are right. It is annoying (as a reader).

I almost feel like I will wait until it is ALL out, start over & read it all back to back!!!!!!!!!!!

KJ I'm equally as annoyed, Irene. I read the second journal and it did absolutely nothing for me. I just want to read the other two books already!

I am worried about this - basically this will feel like a waste of $$ :-|

Bethany Yep, the publisher pushed it back so that If I Were You could be put out in print. The journals show more into Rebecca's story/thoughts that we didn't get to see before. They are worth reading to hold over until Being Me is out!

~IreneOust~ I too am a fan of Lisa Renee Jones (read and enjoyed quite a few of her books). I am double bummed about the release dates being pushed back because I am waiting on more than one of her books.

I don't know much about publishing business but is it normal that it takes this long between books? Is it publishing company's fault that it takes this long? Because there are plenty of authors out there who manage to put out their work, digitally and in print, without this much delay.

I've yet to read the first journal (it's on my Kindle and I started but never finished it) but I will eventually.

Bethany Yes, the Publisher is in total control of when the rest of the series is released now. When it originally came out it was self published, but then S&S took over and so they are in charge of release dates for the rest. There is only a 3 month wait for Being Me now and then Revealing Us will be out in September! Not much more of a wait!

~IreneOust~ Oh YAY! That's good news at least. Thanks for the update :)

Bethany Your welcome :)

E. I think there are several factors that come into play when books are being published. The author does the hard work and comes up with a story that we are all dying to read but then it goes out of his or her hands and works its way through the machinery that depends on the actions of quite a few different people in many different departments. This particular author fights as hard as she can to put her story into the hands of her devoted readers but she is at the mercy of a lot of forces beyond her control. I think it was a great idea for her to find a way to keep enthusiastic fans somewhat mollified by providing the journals to keep the story alive and fortunately the wait for the next novel is getting shorter all of the time!

Paris (kerbytejas) The journals are a fantistic marketing gimic - i support them whole heartly on this trilogy, but on other's i might think twice - the cost per page is rather high on these..but for me it tides me over between the books to get just a bit more

Zita I loved the book If I Were You and have been patiently waiting for the next book. The journals are a supplement to the books. They keep the story alive in my mind and give me insight to the characters back story. So the story continues while I wait for the next book. I loved the two that came out and will continue to get them. Normally I am not a fan of serials but in this instance it works for me.

Colleen Having read Lisa's books for years, I know she would love to have her books come out as soon as she's done writing them but with the sale of the book, there goes her control over when it will be published. It's the one big frustration of authors and ALL of them have had it happen at one time or another. As for the Journals, like Zita said, they're supplements to the books. Many authors give you supplements via novellas or "handbooks" that give you more back info and history. They just fill out the whole story and make it more enjoyable.
