Jess (jesmy777) Book 2!

Hide spoilers, please!

Jess (jesmy777) ^bump!

Marie (fyeahmarie) | 125 comments Ugh, Mr. Poe is a total dumbass!

I didn't like this one as much as the first because I really felt bad for the kids in this book. Looking forward to the next!

Hey, I do believe Lemony Snicket warned you that the books would be unpleasant!

But I agree about Mr. Poe (and most of the adults really!) They can be infuriating in their incompetence and idiocy. I did like Uncle Monty though, and felt bad for what happened to him!

Marie (fyeahmarie) | 125 comments Well, I knew it would be unpleasant. But for the kids to experience happiness and finally feeling as if they've found a home, only to have it ripped away so abruptly was sad and cruel. I'd rather they experience constant misery instead of getting a glimmer of hope that is quickly snuffed out.

No, I totally agree. The kids are so likeable and earnest, it's difficult to see them go through so many horrible situations. The next book is similar, just so you know! But I think it's around book 5 or so where the pattern changes and so you get less of the hope ripped away type of thing.

Jess (jesmy777) I need to read this one! I remember it being my favorite.

Heather (dokushoka) This one made me really sad at the end (well, they are all ultimately sad, otherwise it wouldn't be A Series of Unfortunate Events) but especially because they got so attached to Uncle Monty, really seemed to enjoy their time with him, and also because he was presented as such a friendly guy.

Jess (jesmy777) Okay, I finished this one on Monday. I agree with Heather, this one was really sad. They just seemed so happy and hopeful and he seemed like such a great fit for them.
