A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 148 comments Before I go ahead and possibly make a mistake can I please have some clarification.

I have now published this as an e-book in another market than Amazon, as well as the Kindle version. I can now add this again and asked for them to be merged? I have a new ISBN for this version.
ISBN 9781301664696

everything else is the same.

I am happy to do the necessary if this is the case but I don't want to make more work for the librarians if it is incorrect.

Ta

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Yep - exactly right. Except you'll ask them to be combined, not merged. (Merged is when the same edition has been accidentally added twice, so the records are merged into one.)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 148 comments Another question, sorry.
My book has now appeared on Barnes and Noble but it is via Smashwords. I have no idea if I need to add a new version as I am not sure if it just keeps the SW ISBN and can be found via that?

I don't want to cause issues and add a book to be combined which isn't needed. Anyone have any clue on this?

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments If the nook/ebook for sell on Barnes and Noble has same isbn starting with 978# as on smashwords (likely epub file type and used for all the booksellers it distributes to) — then, no.

If your nook/ebook for sell on Barnes and Noble has a bnid starting with 294# (id unique to bn and in proprietary bn pubit file type), then, yes. Create edition with 294# number in isbn13 field, leave isbn10 field blank, format= ebook, edition= nook edition.

In both cases (978# or 294#) the Barnes and Noble purchase link works.

Similar to isbn ebook guidelines for when you do/don't need additional isbn numbers—just for goodreads read "additional editions" instead of "additional isbns."

Exact same ebook (even if not downloaded in exact same file type) with exact same isbn = only need one edition no matter how/where sold or what devices used to read.

(Ditto for other publishers, authors or distributors of an ebook - one isbn 978#=one edition)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 148 comments Mona has sorted it for me. I was too stupid to find the BNID thingy by myself. Thanks for the advice though, I know for next time. It is hard to keep track:)

Willett Thomas | 17 comments How do I change author name, title and cover of a book in the database that I am the author of.

Author: Redden Sanders; new name: Willett Thomas
Former title: Low Time in Arcadia; new: Raised by Hand, Lifted by the Tides

Thanks!

message 11: by Paula (new)

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments You don't

A new edition is added with the details. The primary author name is the first published name. The books are also combined

Do you have a new ISBN or ASIN / cover

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 148 comments Doesn't that get really confusing? Changing a book name I mean.

We cannot take data from booksellers you need to provide it here and a link for the cover from a NON bookseller link

message 16: by Willett (new)

Willett Thomas | 17 comments 1. Here's link to cover:
http://writeofpassage.org/wp-content/...

2. Author: Redden Sanders; new name: Willett Thomas
Former title: Low Time in Arcadia; new title: Raised by Hand, Lifted by the Tides

3. New synopsis of novel:

When we first meet Lily “Lil Bit” Dalton, she is quite literally drowning. This “lip flapping” event, along with others, takes place in the quirky, yet racially divided waterway township of Arcadia, Florida in 1954.

In Raised by Hand, Lil Bit recounts the years between ten and thirteen spent in the care of the woman she considers to be her grandmother, "Bubbah," and this woman's alcoholic son, Bobby. As the story opens, it’s been five years since Lil Bit’s mama, Violet, “dropped her off like nothin’ but a bit of dirty laundry,” when on “Ditch Thursday,” Lil Bit is pulled from the river by Sheriff Marin. The Sheriff’s act of heroism leaves her not only with the secret of what lies beneath the water, but also with gnawing doubts about Sheriff Marin, “the only white man worth a damn in all of Arcadia,” who also knows the river’s secret, but tells no one.

Like the tales told by the young heroines in the classics To Kill a Mockingbird and the Secret Lives of Bees, Lily “Lil Bit” Dalton’s quest to reunite with her mother, while also keeping the secret of the Massaquatta’s murky depths, takes readers on a tumultuous ride filled with adventure and mystery. But more importantly, Raised by Hand answers the age old question: What does it take to be a family?

Thanks!

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 148 comments Another question, I am not sure how to add the Kobo version. The ISBN is 9781301664696 and the link is http://www.kobobooks.com/ebook/The-Li...
The cover is the same. I am not sure if I add this is will muck things up as it is the same ISBN as Smashwords?

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

This edition you already have links to Kobo. It does use the same ISBN as Smashwords:

I promise I'm not stalking you :)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 148 comments Hehe no worries. So it does, I got a duff link when I search from the little kobo button:)

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments Alexandra wrote: "Another question, I am not sure how to add the Kobo version. The ISBN is 9781301664696..."

We don't add platform-specific eBooks unless they have a unique ISBN and/or identifier (ASIN, 294 BNID, Etc).

So, if someone published a book and bought a separated ISBN for B&N, Kobo and a PDF version - we would add all three. If one ISBN is distributed by B&N, Kobo, GooglePlay and iTunes, only one is added unless they are given a seller specific ID.

message 23: by A.L. (new) - added it

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 148 comments Thanks. I think it counts as the e-pub ISBN. Oddly my link crashes when I try and search Kobo but never mind.

I have the B and N and the paperback and Kindle well so I think I am sorted now. Thanks for the advice.

message 24: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments It almost looks like something changed with the Kobo link. The link works, but not in the way expected.

Instead of going to the book's page on the Kobo site it goes to the homepage and puts a little lightboxy image in the corner that I can hover/click and buy from.

Here's a screenshot of what I'm talking about:

I've tried several books with the Kobo link and all have had the same result. This looks like it might be a recent change on Kobo's part (I'm pretty sure it wasn't happening last time I checked Kobo links, which wasn't too long ago). It may be something with the script on that box that's causing your crash?
