Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Cinder returns in the second thrilling installment of the New York Times-bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother and the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she has no choice but to trust him, though he clearly has a few dark secrets of his own.

As Scarlet and Wolf work to unravel one mystery, they find another when they cross paths with Cinder. Together, they must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen who will do anything to make Prince Kai her husband, her king, her prisoner.

What did you think of this sequel? Cinder? Scarlet? Wolf?

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments Loved it!! Probably liked the first book a smudge more but was amazed at how series the two fairy tales together so cleverly ;)

Thea (theaemily) | 2 comments I loved this book! I liked it more than the first one, just because Scarlet and Wolf are my favourite characters, they are my OTP. :3 Also, Thorne is awesome and I love the dynamic between him and Cinder! (Wolf will forever be my bby<3)

Brandusa (brandubell) I loved Scarlet so much! The new characters were so awesome and I love how Marissa Meyer changes the scenery in every book. Cinder was such a darling and her personality and confidence develops in a state that she can fully accept her Lunar gifts and her robotic parts. This book was a perfect sequel, though I wished we could have had some Cinder-Kai moments.
I can't wait for Cress!!

Joya (moyjoy) | 6 comments I loved it soooo much! I'm still in awe at how wonderfully Marissa blended the Cinder's world into Scarlet's. LOVE all the new characters. :D Can't wait for the next one!

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments Meyer is a fairy tale retelling genius because of how original her stories are while still being true to the originals :)

Suzanne I'm just starting out with Scarlet - but I agree with what David (and others) said - that mix of retelling a familiar tale with a fun and unique setting makes these some really interesting reads!

Vicki (vickiwignall) | 9 comments I want to read this as I've just finished Cinder, but I am unable to as my local library doesn't have it yet. It's just not fair.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments Vicki wrote: "I want to read this as I've just finished Cinder, but I am unable to as my local library doesn't have it yet. It's just not fair."

Can you request them to order it? You've got to read it!

Michelle (misah) | 17 comments Oh, I loved this Book...can't wait for "Cress" - Whaaaat? 2014???.
Marissa Meyer created an amazing new World with great charakters. Scarlet is awesome and I appreciate the European setting. I like to read more about Future Europe in "Cress" (maybe Germany...cradle of fairytales/Brothers Grimm...) would be great!
Thorne is funny and I like the dynamic between him and Cinder, too. I was craving for Cinder/Kai Moments but in the end it was good, that I didn't got them: the next Book will get more exciting. And there were these "lonely-Kai-Chapters" for compensation. :-) Keep at it Mrs. Meyer!

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments Ugh I know, too long to wait!!!

There isn't a copy in the whole of the county that I live in. And with the paperback only coming out last month here, I may have to wait.

Andrea (andreabrame) | 1 comments First book in a long time that I sequestered myself in my bed, propped up with pillows and and cozy in a blanket, until I finished the second half of the book.

It lingered with me. Ms. Meyer has a talent for drawing you into the characters' emotions and I was not disappointed. Wolf and Scarlett were amazing together--just the right amount of tension kept me guessing until the very end what their story would look like.

All in all, very enjoyable!

I love a lazy reading day in bed!

Kathryn (knguyen) | 1 comments Truth to be told, I was a little worried about adding new characters to the series since some authors tend to stray from the original characters too much. With that in mind, I LOVED Scarlet! I thought Meyer did an amazing job! Even though there were extra characters, I felt like it tied the story together. I can't wait for Cress to come out and I'm so excited to see how Meyer throws the story of Rapunzel into the mix :)

chinami | 794 comments I enjoyed it :P

Exactly! It's also a concern but at least we still got to see a lot of Cinder as well as meet Scarlet :)

Monica Millard | 3 comments I usually hate it when authors throw us into a whole new set of characters in a second book and I was wary, but I LOVED this book. Scarlet was so different from Cinder, fiery and fierce. I love Wolf! I loved Scarlet and Wolf together. I think I might actually like this second one more than the first, though I still love Cinder so much! I can't wait for the next one! It's so far away!

Jessica | 20 comments Overall I enjoyed Scarlet. Were there points were a)I was bored b)I predicted that would happen chapters ago, YES, but all of it was needed for character and plot development. I wanted more from this book, but I do realize we are only halfway done with the series.

I ❤'d the new characters. They added so much to the story. I have a love/hate relationship with Scarlet, I love to hate her. Captain Thorne was my favorite addition.

I look forward to reading Cress. I hope it's not as predictable as Scarlet was.

Tracey (addicted_to_reading) i loved this book. not as much as Cinder but it was still great. Scarlet and Wolf's story was just a tad boring and predictable.

Joya (moyjoy) | 6 comments fairy tales are supposed to be predictable! :D

lol that's true

Emma Adams (eladams) I've just finished reading Scarlet, and I liked it even more than Cinder. I love the way Marissa Meyer completely recreates fairy tales in a sci-fi world, and I love all the characters. I can't wait for Cress! :)

Awesome! I can't wait to see how she ties everything together too! I love all the new characters ;)

Suzanne I'm about halfway through now. I was strongly preferring the parts with Cinder - partly because I've been wondering for a year what is going to happen to her. I haven't liked the parts with Scarlet and Wolf nearly as much, but I'm starting to get drawn in to their story.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments Cinder will always be my favorite character :)

Angie (angiebayne) I love this series. It is becoming one of my favorites and I can't wait to read the next installment. Meyer does a fantastic job combining the fairy tales with her futuristic society. I love that we learn more about Luna in this book and what they are planning for Earth. Meyer has truly created a fascinating cast of characters and a story that draws the reader in.

Who's your favorite character? I still love Cinder the best!

message 31: by Mara (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mara (maraanne) I'm almost done with Scarlet. Love it so far. Thorne is annoying, but at least Cinder agrees with me! :) I love Wolf, but I'm not a big fan of him and Scarlet being together. Scarlet's an all right character, but Wolf deserves someone with a better temper.

message 32: by Mags (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mags I loved Scarlet, way more than Cinder.
Thorne made me laugh, Wolf kept the mystery ... :D
Can't wait for the next one.

Preethi (itsmepreethi) I liked Cinder way more than Scarlet. I mainly wanted to read the second book to see what happens to Cinder now that's she knows who she is, and mostly because I wanted to see romance bloom once again between the prince and Cinder. Who doesn't want to see that? And while there was a nice romance between Scarlet and her new boyfriend (well, sort-of-boyfriend), it wasn't as good as Cinder and Kai's relationship. I hope they get together soon!! And he better not marry Miss Evil :/

message 34: by Mara (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mara (maraanne) Almost done with Scarlet!! I'm at the point where . . . Well, where I shouldn't be trusting Wolf, but I still do. This sort of ploy has been used so much in other stories: you trust someone, and then they're traitors, but then it turns out they're really good. I'm waiting for the turn-around with him. And if it doesn't come . . . *tears well up; sniffle, sniffle* I don't want him to be bad!

Lol I know what you mean, I love to hate her, along with all the crap Kai is going through, I feel so bad for him!

Rachel (adtrrachel) Great book can't wait for the next one!

message 39: by Mara (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mara (maraanne) Eeeee!!! That was awesome! I was 99.9% sure that Wolf would turn out well, but I admit that I wasn't certain if the Author would kill him off or not. Had me a bit worried there. Still not a big fan of Scarlet and Wolf being romantically involved. Scarlet's all right, but Wolf needs someone with a better temperment, and Scarlet's just not my favorite character. And I really like Wolf.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments Mara wrote: "Eeeee!!! That was awesome! I was 99.9% sure that Wolf would turn out well, but I admit that I wasn't certain if the Author would kill him off or not. Had me a bit worried there. Still not a big fan..."

I agree too except don't mind Scarlet. She's just enough to be a new player in the story but not too much as to take away from Cinder being the star of the show.

Rebecca Hambery (rhambery) I loved this book! Better than Cinder in my opinion. The romance between Wolf and Scarlet was adorable and I loved the switching of characters.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments Rebecca wrote: "I loved this book! Better than Cinder in my opinion. The romance between Wolf and Scarlet was adorable and I loved the switching of characters."

I really liked the point of view switches too ;)

TSK (thatlittleone) Absolutely loved it, like the Cinder! The serie hasmade it to my best-books-ever-read-shelf! By the way, has someone seen the book trailers on The Lunar Cronicles facebook page? I promise a good laughs!

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments Awesome!! Yes, I've seen them, they're hilarious!
