Michael I just finished Beautiful Creatures and just started Beautiful Darkness, but I am confused.Ethan thought that Macon was a Vampire but then Macon was upset and said that was preposterous and revealed to him that he was an Incubus,he then explained that most Incubuses feed on blood but he feeds on dreams, also Incubuses are described as very pale, cannot go into sunlight, and are very strong after they feed.Isn't that basically a Vampire but with a different name? I wouldn't be so confused is Macon said he is like a Vampire but he said that was preposterous and got all upset.

Brittney It's mainly just a new name for vampire, but it's like the Casters being offended by the term witches. In the story, it's probably meant as vampires and witches are just terms that the mortals have come up with for those races because they didn't know the proper name. They probably deem the word a slur.

Anna when it comes to characters that take the form of any mythology you can pretty much mold it to your needs as long as you keep to the idea that the base characteristics are the same. I mean you can only use the word vampire or demon so much that you want to find a whole new mindset to take the reader. When a character feeds on life force essence whether it be blood, chi or (soul) energy. You can spin a character to meet that ideal you need for that particular read. I have an incubus as one of the main characters in a book i have been working on and its nice to pull from somewhere that isn't really that common. So that my mind doesn't pull character traits from other books...

don't no dear i just hear this by playing Persona 2 game

but as it is described in the book incubus is like other term to vampire

Jeni In lore, Incubii can be male or female (the female is called a succubus; males are incubus). They are lustful demons that prey on the desires of humans while they sleep.

The succubus comes to men in their dreams and seduces them. They can turn the man into an incubus. This was the standard excuse for nocturnal emissions amongst the monks centuries ago. Of course, only a demon could make them break their vows to the church.

An incubus comes to a woman in her dreams and seduces her. Some lore specifies the seduction is violent and can end in death, other says women lure such a demon with their repressed deviant desires.

Vampires are killed and transformed by another vampire and feed off the blood of living humans to sustain their bodies. They are immortal and are not demons, but humans changed.

Luna more or less, matters which one kind of Incubus your talking about a dark ( blood) or light( dreams).

Josh In a sense, yes, but a vampire always feeds on blood. Unlike in the book where ALL Incubi originally feed on dreams. In the book, calling an Incubus a vampire is just like calling a black person a nigger. But read on, you'll see what happens to the Ravenwood lineage when Abraham first uses the Book of Moons.

Don't_Trot_and_Text I think that Macon just doesn't like being called a vampire because he sees vampires as vicious, thoughtless, and careless monsters that belong in movies.

Arden a vampire who has the option of eating dreams...

Renee yup, incubus is basically a male vampire who goes around and drinks blood from women. a succubus is a female vampire who drinks blood from men.
anyway, I've only read the first one so what can I say, that's just in general.

Gabby When i read that Macon was an incubus, and then went into Ethan's dreams I was like. What? Don't they seduce the people who's dreams they feed off of? What?

Jacintha Ongenaert everything that drinks blood, is a vampire for me

Marissa Homan Thats like saying "Well...aren`t witches and casters the same thing?" NO! NO THEY ARE NOT!

Brittney For those that are confused, I think Kami and Margaret used the term Incubus, because they are literally leeching onto/into someone else and stealing their life force, whether it be by blood or dreams. I don't think they intended to use the Incubus/Sucubus legend, simply the term. It's the same as people taking faeries and changing their properties/traits/etc., there's really no reason to get offended over it.

Cat Oh, no no no. Seriously, I am a paranormal freak, and there is a HUGE difference between Incubuses and Vampires!

Marissa wrote: "Thats like saying "Well...aren`t witches and casters the same thing?" NO! NO THEY ARE NOT!"
Marissa is so right! These aren't the same thing, so don't use them interchangably!

Meghan From the way the book puts it a Caster isn't a witches because witches and wizards have no limit to spells while casters do.An example being Larkin and Lena's grandfather. Larkin can only do illusions, mostly of snakes, while the Grandfather, i forget his name, can transform objects into other things. Now as far as Vampires and Incubii go I cant say for certain how they are different. I know for one thing that when a Vampire dies its just dead. Incubii, and this is just an assumption from reading all the books,is turned back human under certain circumstances.Yes the descriptions for Vampires and Incubii are very similar but Vampires can't travel like Incubii can. For one Macon doesn't get wet from the rain, a vampire will. Macon can use magic, to a certain degree, vampires cant. In a way I can see how Vampires and Incubii are similar, mainly physical appearance, but Incubii sound like vampires that can use magic and aren't affected by elements. To be honest I think Incubii are WAY cooler than Vampires.

Incubii feed from the shoulder not the neck and could be born that way and when they reach a certain age is when they transform and they don't always have perfect features.

Wren wait....im confused. do incubi drink blood?

message 20: by Kevin (new)

Kevin An incubus/succubus feed on chi or sexual energy a vampire feeds on blood they are no where close
