As Bird Brian suggested in another thread, we could use some Non-Fiction shelves. I was thinking of some nice diverse, reasonably specific categories for shelves.

A couple of suggestions (to give an idea of what I'm talking about) would be:

- Ancient History (NF)
- Modern History (NF)
- Brains (NF) - [I'm thinking about neuroscience, neurolinguistics, psychology, anything that even vaguely involves how the mind works]
- World Cultures (NF)
- Cooking & Eating (NF)

OR

We could use the Dewey System.

I'm not much of a NF reader these days. What do you think?

Riona (rionafaith) | 457 comments I love engaging, not-too-academic nonfiction and keep meaning to read more of it, so I'm fully in favor of this!

Are we just nominating shelves here, or books to put on those shelves?

Riona (rionafaith) | 457 comments I think there should definitely be a biography/autobiography/memoir shelf as well. I read a lot of those.

Just shelves for now thanks. I'll start some threads for each shelf at some point..

Sure. We have a B-Movie Shelf, but a broader shelf for film would be great. I'm obsessed with the tv series of this book right now: The Story Of Film

Wow, this looks great. And the series is available on Netflix instant. And I finally got a real TV yesterday to do it justice. Book and series added to queue.

I have the book which I read about 7 years ago. As I recall it is pretty interesting. I enjoyed the TV series (not least for his mesmeric delivery!)

I'm so glad there are fellow enthusiasts of the series! And "mesmeric" is the perfect adjective. It's like nothing else I've seen. I wish I could get my hands on the DVDs :(

Apart from his commentary and the clips of the films, he has filmed beautiful connecting sequences which wonderfully both support and counterpoint his commentary

Yes, the series is as filmic as anything else he discusses.
