20.3 Best Review - Bucket's task: Traveling in Time

Get ready, armchair travelers, because this task will send you on a trip - through time!
Read one book that fits one of the options below.

1. Back to the Classics - Travel 50 years or more back in time by reading a classic! For this option you can read any book originally published in or before 1963.

2. Along for the Ride - Read a book about time travel and tag along! Read any book that includes the genre "time travel" on its main page. This list may help: The Best Time Travel Books of All Time

3. Keeping Time - Read a book with a clock or watch on the cover. If you choose a book with a watch, the face should be clearly visible. This list may help: Keeping Time

Required: Please state which option you choose. If you choose the "Back to the Classics" option, include the book's year of publication in your post. If you choose the "Keeping Time" option, include a cover image in your post.

Chris (chrismd) | 1237 comments Awesome! I love time travel, and I was looking for a place to slot Replay.

message 6: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments How about this one for option 3 Tedd and Todd's Secret (The Big Ben Mystery) by Fernando Trujillo Sanz pending ebook approval Bucket? It is a free kindle book on Amazon.

message 7: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments can I get The Legend of the Bloodstone approved - right now time-travel is showing on the homepage, but only 1 person has shelved it that way and it might disappear

message 8: by Chaitra (new)

Chaitra (chaitra_ganesh) | 518 comments Will Life Goes On do for option 1? First published in 1933, but it only recently got translated into English.

message 9: by Sam (new)

Sam | 174 comments I'm planning on using this Time Between Usfor the time travel option. It's been on my kindle for far too long

message 10: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Most likely I'll read The Time Machine by H.G. Wells which fit all 3 categories and I'm supposed to read for another challenge.

message 11: by Bucket (new)

Bucket | 362 comments @Chris - Replay will work!
@Sheila - Yes, I can see the clock face quite well. Assuming e-book approval, it works!
@Dee - Yes, approved. I read the book description and it IS about time-travel, so more may shelve it that way in time. :)
@Chaitra - Absolutely!
@Sam - Time Between Us will work!
@D.G. - Way to find a book that fits all three - great choice!

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments thank you!

message 16: by Deanna (new)

Deanna (whodunitrdr) | 190 comments I am debating between two books for this one so I thought I would get them both approved. :)

For option 2, how about George & the Virgin by Lisa Cach . It has both Science Fiction > Time Travel and Romance > Time Travel Romance listed on the main page.

For option 3, can you see the face of the pocket watch clearly enough on this one?

An Era Apart by Chris Lange by Chris Lange

message 17: by Bucket (new)

Bucket | 362 comments @Deanna

Yes, these will both work!

message 18: by Dee (last edited Mar 08, 2013 04:53PM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments not sure if this is clear enough of not - Murder Takes Time by Giacomo Giammatteo - it looks like a clock face on the shorter of the 2 buildings

message 19: by Bucket (new)

Bucket | 362 comments @Dee - on the zoomed in image of the cover, it doesn't appear to be a clock face: http://www.goodreads.com/book/photo/1...

Sorry, this one won't work. All the best!

message 20: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments figured it was worth a try - it looked like the middle had black hands and the outside was the clock - but that's ok

message 21: by KSMary (new)

KSMary | 1181 comments Would you accept this for a clock face even though it's fuzzy The Sparrow (The Sparrow, #1) by Mary Doria Russell

message 22: by Janet F (new)

Janet F (janet_f) | 450 comments Will this work? This timepiece is fuzzy but obvious on the actual cover. My paperback cover coloring is green like the second one- but mine is in English.
Timepiece by Richard Paul Evans El Regalo de Tiempo = Timepiece by Richard Paul Evans

message 23: by Bucket (new)

Bucket | 362 comments @KSMary and @Janet F - yes, these are both clearly clocks. They will work!

Andy Plonka (plonkaac) | 4207 comments Re Option 1
Is it possible to use John Steinbeck's The Red Pony for this option? The book was originally published in 1933 but it is a short book, just over 100 pages in most editions and one of the genres listing on its Good Reads home page is children

message 25: by Bucket (new)

Bucket | 362 comments Hi Andy,

It sounds like this is one of those books that can't be used because of the new rule about page lengths for children's books.

I sure wish that you could use this book, because to me it's an adult classic and it fits the task perfectly. That being said, I'm very much in favor of the new rule as it makes things easier for the mods so I want to follow it.

Not sure how much Steinbeck you've read already, but I highly recommend East of Eden (which is much longer and so won't pose this problem). I also found this book: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/14...

It contains both The Pearl and The Red Pony. It's more reading, but The Pearl is a quick read, and I would accept it because the original publication date for both novellas was before 1963.

message 26: by Andy (new)

Andy Plonka (plonkaac) | 4207 comments Thanks, I think I'll do that. I planned to read the Red Pony last season but didn't get it done and now it doesn't seem to fit anywhere. I'll read The Pearl to add to it. I too agree with the new rule. I was just lokking for a way to use The Red pony and you suggestion is a good one.

MiA (mirhershelf) | 117 comments How about The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes?? Is it waaaay back in time for option1??

message 28: by Bucket (new)

Bucket | 362 comments @Marwa

Yes, it works! :)

message 29: by Sue Q (new)

Sue Q | 44 comments I saw that you said it was okay to Deanna (message 16 above) that a genre on the main page labelled "Science Fiction > Time Travel" is okay but I just wanted to double check if it is!!

message 30: by Bucket (new)

Bucket | 362 comments Yup - that genre works!

message 31: by Sue Q (new)

Sue Q | 44 comments Thanks!

Tallulah A. (madhoydenish) | 130 comments 3. Keeping Time

Dream Lucky When FDR was in the White House, Count Basie was on the radio, and everyone wore a hat... by Roxane Orgill

Will this work? Watch on FDR's arm at the bottom.

message 33: by Bucket (new)

Bucket | 362 comments Hi Tallulah! Unfortunately this one won't work - the task specifically requires that the face of the watch/clock be clearly visible. I checked out the actual size cover image on Amazon, and while I can tell FDR has a watch on, there isn't enough detail to see the face. Sorry!

message 34: by Tallulah A. (last edited May 06, 2013 01:08PM) (new)

Tallulah A. (madhoydenish) | 130 comments Okay. By "the face should be clearly visible," I thought that you meant that the face should be visible to be sure it is a watch. To distinguish it, say, from a bracelet peeking out from a sleeve. Not detailed enough read the dial.

No worries. I'll use it in another task. Thanks for checking.

message 35: by Bucket (new)

Bucket | 362 comments Glad it will work for another task for you!

message 36: by Penny (new)

Penny | 99 comments Hi does this work? I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella You can see the clock in the clock tower.

I read this for another task, I thought I saw it approve for it, but nooo :s

message 37: by Bucket (new)

Bucket | 362 comments @Penny

Yes, this will work. When the cover is actually size, i can see the clock face and it's hands. :)

message 38: by Penny (new)

Penny | 99 comments thanks
