ch12 - ahaaaa! there's fitz, and he is becoming smarter.
i'm quite liking Starling, she seems trustworthy, so far at least. and i think Fitz could use a friend too.
his poisons didn't work exactly as he wanted them too, but it still did the job, and potentially more heriocally then if they would have died at the camp

ch13 - David, the mad ferret has arrived! love him! i hope he will appear again, and i like the trap warning. it already sounded way too easy. one, would Regal really leave his palace to look for Fitz, i doubt it! and two, they couldn't have come so fast.
but thanks to the Ferret, and fitz becoming a tiny little bit smarter, he walked away.
now Starling... i think she can be trusted, but she's still giving off a weird vibe. i hope she's not playing games

ch14 - nighteyes is running! alone and endlessy.
i assume nighteyes has finally decided to join Fitz? i mean, I'm glad he took some time to be a wolf, but he can't have Fitz going on his own into the mountains. hopefully he'll get there in time before he crosses the lake.

Yes i think the minstrels are very important. the introduction to that chapter talks about how they get access to so many things - both the upstanding citizens and the slightly lower standing ones.
sounds a bit like farseer-journalism :)

Love that ferret
yes i can see that. i loved the start of book 1, however you can't have three books like that either, so i'm enjoying getting to know the rest of the world too.
i had the feeling you described more with harry potter. no matter how much i enjoyed the last book, i missed hogwarts!

Now the minstrels that Alex loves come along and do their job, carefully of course, if they value their lives.

When he has been Skilling and Witting out everywhere despite everyone's repeated cautions, especially His king's, he is no longer willing to Skill and put them in danger. He is focused on saving Verity and getting back to his family- where he should have been at the beginning of the book- where Burrich hinted he should go (pretty directly)- and this book would have been a lot less wordy.
I usually like first and last books in a series the best. But unless this one picks up, two is much better so far. We'll see!...

This is a beautiful part where I'm at now- ch 12- As Fitz is laying down to go to sleep while herding the sheep, The minstrel sings the song of Fitz killing the chief of the raiding party at Antler Island. "Chivalry's son, with eyes of flame, who carried his blood if not his name."
She's already figured out who Fitz is.
ch15 - so our dear Fitz is becoming quite a skilled eavesdropper (see what i did here? :D). smart of Hobb to include that in here so we get a bit more tense. question is where the coterie is hiding, but regal seems quite certain that fitz will have to pass there on his way to verity

Yes that was really nice part!
It was good too, i think he needed a bit of confidence boost.

I love Starling, a great opposite of Tassin, and she is willing to do so much for her art and history. I think they will make an interesting pair on their journey, and we should be rewarded with the nice song at the end.
And Burrich has fallen off the wagon... He believes Fitz to be TRULY dead, Molly doesn't understand why the emotion is coming out now when Fitz died over a month ago and she is now finally learning to deal with it!
and during the long wait, he also sees his daughter being born, that's a good reason to gain a bit more perspective in life beyond whatever suicidal plans he had before.
