Melanie Cusick-Jones (melc-j) As promised...Thomas William Shaw, author of March's group read 'The Silhouette' joins us for a little interview.

What is your favorite way to spend a rainy day?

Catching up on TV shows, blogging, and cuddling with my dachshund Delilah.

What is the one book you think everyone should read?

The Road by Cormac McCarthy. The relationship between the father and the son during impossible times was something I found quite beautiful.

How do you react to a bad review?

Naturally, it feels like getting punched in the nose at first. After I give myself time to cool off, I pick apart the review and take the advice I can use and cast out the rest. You can’t please everyone.

Which authors have influenced you most, and how?

It is an odd combination of Rick Riordan, JK Rowling, and Scott Sigler. I choose the first two for the love and passionate themes hidden under the surface of their action packed stories. Scott Sigler for his raw writing style and the way he has marketed himself.

What are you working on at the moment-do you have any other books in the works?

The Alan Quinn series is a planned trilogy, so I am currently working on book two. There is a lot of potential there and I aim to explore it.

What inspired you to want to become a writer?

I am my most calm when I’m writing. For that brief moment each day that I am typing away or placing pencil to paper, the rest of the world doesn’t exist. It is just something I’ve always enjoyed.

What was your favorite book when you were younger?

Ha. I was in love with the Hank the Cow Dog series. I loved the concept of a dog that solved mysteries on a farm.

What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?

Regardless of the obstacles you face, never stop writing.

What is your favorite Quote?
“Ideas are bulletproof”- Alan Moore (V for Vendetta)

What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?

Book Three of Amy Leigh Strickland’s Olympia Heights series

Which of the characters is your favorite and why?

Alan Quinn’s world makes it hard for me to choose, but I would have to say my favorite is Andrew Lathon. He has a larger than life personality that only his inner demons can tear down. He has layers.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book?

“Ghosts that we knew” by Mumford & Sons

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?

Give or take a few background traits, I am Alan Quinn. My humor, my personality is all over him.
