Harriet (ithasturnedherbrain) | 5 comments So I've decided to see how many of the Sherlock Holmes novellas I can read this month. I read a lot of the short stories when I was younger, as I went through a Sherlock Holmes phase when I was about 13 (right before my Agatha Christie phase). The Hound of the Baskervilles was one I never managed to get to grips with at that point, although I believe it's supposed to be one of Conan Doyle's masterpieces. So would anyone like to discuss it with me?

Liz (hissheep) Great book, Harriet! However, I read it when I was much younger too and only remember liking it ... even as a teenager! ;o)

Hope you find people willing to discuss!

Anil (loykalina) | 79 comments It is the first book I've read this year. It was a little bit difficult to read on iBooks, though.

I had watched Sherlock (mini TV series) before reading this book, and I think they quoted abundantly from this book in the first episode.

Danaë | 89 comments This is my favorite Holmes novella/story so far. Not unexpected since I'm a dog lover who reads a lot of fantasy - anything with a supernatural hound is going to delight me. :) I felt the writing was smoother than A Study in Scarlet or The Sign of Four. I'm not sure if it's because it was written later, or because I had read it before and it was somewhat familiar.

Alana (alanasbooks) | 208 comments I have only two or three Holmes stories left and this is by far the absolute best. Not only is the best of the Holmes tales, it's one of the best works of literature I've ever read. It's that good. The description of the moors is chilling and the tale is told brilliantly. Excellent book!
