1. What do you think about the custom of “mail-order” brides, one which some cultures still utilize? Can you imagine yourself in such a situation?

2. As a traditional historical romance, did this book fulfill your expectations?

3. Did the plot pull you in and keep you reading, or did you lose interest?

4. Did this book leave you with a strong sense of place and time period? Is the setting here important? Is it a kind of character?

5. Were there situations in Hand-Me-Down Bride, with which you could identify, or did the problems/challenges encountered by Sophie, Karl, Dawn and the others seem irrelevant or quite unlikely today?

6. How did the book compare to other books by the same author (or books in the same genre)?

7. What characters did you like most? Least?

8. How realistic was the characterization? Did you believe in the Wildbachs, the Daniels, McNallys and other inhabitants of Germans Mill?

9. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can have many causes, although it has only recently been recognized as a legitimate psychological problem. Do you see evidence of it among these characters?

10. Would you recommend this book to other readers?
