This was a brief glimpse into a TPE relationship at the time of collaring ... it would have been more meaningful & satisfying if we had more story for context ... a two minute read that will be easily dismissed & forgotten.
P…Packing Leather – 04/04/2013 – ★★☆
This one wasn't up to Kim's usual standards unfortunately ... too much was left unsaid which forced the reader to make huge leaps to fill in plot holes ... for example, the resort had a vanilla side yet despite only 'mild' flirtation, Jamie 'instinctively' knew that Darren was a Dom so (won't spoil the plot) ... it just seemed to be an overly-complicated scenario for the limited word count ... I also didn't like the way that Darren seemed to leave Jamie second-guessing all the time ... just not an enjoyable read unfortunately.

This is a wonderful smexy read with the added dimension of seeing Dustin grow into his skin after years of subjugating himself to controlling women.
It is a story of coming out, sweet fetishes, teasing, loving and having the balls to be honest about yourself and your desires. The angst is well balanced and isn't gratuitous...it pushes the story forward...this is a well-crafted book with realistic, easy to like characters.

This was the first Kim Dare book that I haven't really enjoyed ... since reading mostly m/m romance for 12 months now, I find it hard to relax into m/f stories ... I find it difficult to not become outraged at the woman in a submissive roll (the feminist in me rears her ugly head) ... why do submissive women have to be portrayed as so damn needy & weak? ... male submissives are allowed to be strong characters outside of the bedroom but female submissives are usually (broad generalisation here) portrayed as broken in some way ... needing to be 'rescued' ... I have enjoyed m/f BDSM in the past so I'm not sure if this particular character made my hackles rise or if my experience with m/m books has ruined me for m/f forever.

So I'm 50% through the book so far & I'm not connecting with the characters at all dammit. I kinda just want to DNF but don't know if I can be bothered finding a new book to fit the challenge ... I'm not even enjoying the smex ... Brian sounds more like he has gonorrhea than arousal-induced pre-cum with the amount of 'leaking' he does...
I managed to finish but I'm still a bit meh about it ... I don't think I really liked either of the MC's & all the sobbing & melodrama just ... just ... meh ... & why carry around lube if you're not going to use it? ... meh ... meh ... meh ...

When I tried to cheat, I googled the translation & was given grasmaand as the Dutch word for April...had all my books picked out & everything *pout*
