Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments When you review a book, is there a way to add a .5 star?

message 2: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments No. Make a decision and go with it. When there are five stars people want halves. When there are ten, they still want halves. When does it stop?

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments Well, hell. This wasn't a philosophical question. Sometimes I'm feeling halfway between a 3 and a 4 when writing a review.

Susan | 6406 comments If I feel between, it gets the lesser of the two.

message 5: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments I never explain my ratings. I like them to be shrouded in mystery.

I just can't help myself.

Hayley Stewart (haybop) My feeling is that if I feel stuck between and round up, do I feel like I'm overselling and the same if I round down - am I underselling? If I round down & I feel okay with it then it stays there.

Carol | 1678 comments I say the half in my review, too. I've also changed my rating system in my own mind so they are arbitrary within my own ratings.

Susan | 6406 comments Yay!

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments Thanks. I was hoping for a way to add a .5, but that's not happening. I'll continue doing the same as Charly, rating down and adding the .5 in the review.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i give every book a 2 unless i literally did a backflip when finished

message 12: by Pat (new)

Pat (patb37) For me every book starts out in my head as a 3. It may be downgraded or upgraded after I read it. My ratings are not precise enough to need half points.

Susan | 6406 comments I now have a burning desire to see Kevin's library and know what books made him do backflips.

message 14: by Arminius (new)

Arminius They should increase the rating levels to 10. That way the rating system would have much more meaning.

And people would still ask for a .5 rating.

message 16: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments That's already been said. I wasn't asking for an opinion, just for the how-to.

I like the idea of being able to add a .5 star to a rating. It's all about how you feel about a book, and sometimes I'm feeling in-between. I'd like to be able to express that. But it's not happening, at least for the present.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments if the level went to 10 i would still give certain books an 11 like on spinal tap

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...

Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?

Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.

Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?

Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?

Marty DiBergi: I don't know.

Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?

Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.

Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.

Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?

Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.
