Dani "A good girl should never go anywhere, without a loaded gun and a big knife."

Sarah Agnes Prine

Tracy "That woman grinds my grits, and that's a fact."

Tammie I declare, it is like some other part of me made up some rules about happiness and I just went along with them without thinking. (p318 Top)

I think this hit the nail of unhappiness on the head! If we can figure out who we are and what OUR rules of happiness are not the "Good Wife's" version or our mothers or sisters or friends version is, then and only then I think happiness wouldn't be so hard to achieve...I loved this quote! That's actually why I am glad Oprah went off the air!!!

Amy I read this upon the recommendation of my daughter and thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book. I loved the the history and the authors character development totally emphasized by the use of dialect and the homespun wrds of wisdom. How strong these people(especially the women) were. Could we survive as they did today?

M Rabin My favorite quote is "Our axles don't match but our wheels are turning". I loved this book. I like books about strong women who know how to take care of themselves.

Colleen Maclennan This is the story of the life of a fesity woman-- Sarah . We first encounter the young Sarah as she treks with her family to begin a new life in Arizona. Along the way Sarah faces many hardships that come with being a pioneer-- Indian raids, sickness, loves lost and found, unsavory men and women and hard work. Sarah's humor, fierce determination and love of family and friends substain her. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to read about the adventures of a remarkable woman in the 1800's. I enjoyed the book.

Fran "It seems there is always a road with bends and forks to choose, and taking one path means you can never take another one. There's no starting over nor undoing the steps I've taken."

Fran "My life feels like a book left out on the porch, and the wind blows the pages faster and faster, turning always toward a new chapter faster than I can stop and read it."

Fran "Children are a burden to a mother, but not the way a heavy box is to a mule. Our children weigh hard on my heart, and thinking about them growing up honest and healthy, or just living to grow up at all, makes a load in my chest that is bigger than the safe at the bank, and more valuable to me than all the gold inside it."

Fran "A friendly silence can speak between two who will walk together a long way."

Fran "They just cannot be sad too long, it is not in them, as children mourn in little bits here and there like patchwork in their lives."

Tracy Fran wrote: ""Children are a burden to a mother, but not the way a heavy box is to a mule. Our children weigh hard on my heart ..."

I loved this quote when I read the book. It describes the feeling of being a mother better than most others I've seen.

Elena "I never did see so many brown people before and I figured the sun scorched 'em like a flat iron on a white shirt."

I love this quote because it is so Sarah to say it!

Brittany Anne Can anyone help me find the quote where Sarah describes Jack as a man who isn't scared of the things most men are afraid of, but who is terrified of the things that most men wouldn't think about? Something like that? These Is My Words (Sarah Agnes Prine, #1) by Nancy E. Turner

John Brittany wrote: "Can anyone help me find the quote where Sarah describes Jack as a man who isn't scared of the things most men are afraid of, but who is terrified of the things that most men wouldn't think about? S..."

She writes that on February 6, 1886.

While searching, I got a chuckle from this quote:
July 30, 1885
Then he grabbed me in his arms and kissed me hard, and we stood in the shade a long time, kissing each other in a most indecent way, which I have grown to like quite a bit.

Rachel Harper Does anyone know where the quote is about she has shot three men and she is not afraid of you.
