Here is where we discuss D.Gray-Man. We're reading the first 3 volumes, though you don't have to read all 3. Remember to label all spoilers. Also, feel free to add any discussion questions, so long as they're appropriate.

I have volume 1 requested at my library. Hopefully the person who has it turns it in on time (April 5).

Manga is so much better than the anime. The anime really screwed with the timeline. The hospital episode and the witch episodes were from the novels and took place before Allen made it to the Order (Witch arc is why Kanda's hurt and ticked off when Allen first arrives). The manga also goes on further than the anime, and by about book 10, the art is a lot better than the anime's.

Is it really popular? I go to quite a few cons, but I never see too many DGM cosplayers. Maybe one or two, if I'm lucky. I never see too much about it online either. O.o

I have the second and third volumes from my library, but I'm still waiting on the first volume.

Hoshino-sensei broke her arm every few months, I swear. XD So many hiatuses. That's why it got switched to monthly. And I think the anime ended because they were running out of source material.

I haven't heard that one, but that's probably a better explanation than she's a super klutz. O.o

Okay, so I got tired of waiting for the person at the library to turn it in (it's now overdue), so I read volume 1 on my manga app on my Kindle.
It still feels like a typical shounen action series, but I did like it. The concept is interesting, and I can't say too much about originality since I haven't read too much shounen, though it did feel a little like Bleach. I've come to the conclusion that I can't form too much of an opinion until I read the next few volumes. Volume 1 (as is the usual) was an introductory volume so the good stuff won't happen until the next volumes.

Resurrecting a dead thread, but very important for DGM fans. :)
I need to ask you guys a favor.
I recently contacted the publisher Viz about whether they had plans to release the D.Gray-Man Reverse light novel series in the US (they publish the manga).
Alas, they said they didn't have any plans at the moment, but that they'd take my message into consideration. And it wasn't a form letter response, which makes me respect Viz a heck of a lot.
Which leads me to my request...
Anyone who would be interested in getting the D.Gray-Man light novels released in the US, please contact Viz here letting them know that you'd like the D.Gray-Man novels released in the US. :)
Thanks guys!

So I'm rereading this series because I'm impatient for the manga to continue, and really want to talk about it. It was a trip, reading the first volume again after more than a decade.
And now I have to wonder how much Hoshino planned from the getgo and how much was made up as she went because most of the characters from volume 1 are never mentioned again (I'm looking at you, grand generals) and the thing central to Allen's back story makes no sense with the stuff coming out now.
I still love this series though, even if the first few volumes make no sense lol

So I'm through volume 20 as well as finally getting around to watching Hallow and am starting to see a few patterns...
Does anyone else notice that when (view spoiler)
I'm starting to suspect that Allen's curse might actually be (view spoiler) Since we know as of volume 25 that (view spoiler)
Is anyone still following DGM? Because I really wanna talk DGM theories but no one I know follows it anymore. T_T
