The Not a Book Club Club discussion
Introduction & Welcome Thread
Hi I'm Rob, and currently I'm talking to myself.
I made this group as an easy way to set up group reads where each book can have it's own section so people can create as many threads as they want to discuss the book rather than separate private groups or simply responding to status updates, etc.

I'm a member of the Sword and Laser book club and found this cause Rob created it and I saw it on my update feed. Seems like a pretty cool idea.

Lol. Well no one made you..
Lol. Well no one made you..

I'm a follower who just does what everybody else does, so I joined this not-club since my friends did.
And (mainly) because I want to read The First Law! It's taunted me from bookshelves for ages now, so I figured it was time to show who's boss.

Anyway, Rob's fault I'm here but at least I'm gonna enjoy myself :)
Rob, make us a thread about random books and suggestions for the next, personal, read. I'm about to read some historical fiction but I'm not sure will it be about Vikings or Rome so I would like to ask for other people's opinion (unless we already have it).
Thanks

Well there may be some of that here as well. Like for instance I plan to read Words of Radiance when it comes out.
If you have a series you want to start though, pitch it here and see if there is some interest to join you.
It's not a real club with voting and monthly picks. If you have 2 or more people reading a book at the same time, you can feel free to discuss it here.
I'm happy to make a discussion board for whatever books people want.
And Welcome.

Well this one is probably a bad example. Most clubs have 1 or more books a month.
The plan for this group is more casual. It's meant as a place for two or more people to get together and read and discuss a book they all want to.
No formal club picks. So if you have something you want to read suggest it and see if there is interest.
Welcome!

I'm more a sword than a laser (I know it's not the right place to say that, but I guess you all know S&L).
What a great idea, Rob *thumb up* :)

Kevin does seem to like inviting people to things I've noticed. Welcome!

Sword and Laser is what brought me to good reads in the first place.
Thanks, I'm hoping it turns out to be a good idea ^_^

Yes...years. I am ashamed I haven't yet read it, and determined that this is the year - so this group works for me!
Looking forward to reading with you all.

i loved abercrombie (especially Best Served Cold!). those who are going to read it, you're in for some fun and you're about to meet some very interesting characters!
i might join with Dune - it has been on my shelf for a few weeks. but i have a Robin Hobb starting mid april as well, so not sure yet.
(i prefer to read one book at a time)

Well I invited exactly 3 people, all of them having expressed interest in reading The Blade Itself. I also posted a link in the Malazan group thread where a few of us had discussed the idea.
How the group has grown to over 25 people though is beyond me.
There are some people in here who don't have any friends or groups in common with anyone that I could tell.
It must be my really clever group name! ^_^

It looks like you guys are reading my type of books! I am currently reading Abaddon's Gate and have been meaning to read some Joe Abercrombie for a while now so I might try to fit The Blade Itself into my schedule too.
Oh, and yeah, the group name rocks :D

Kevin is probably the reason most of us are here :) Hi Jenny!

That wouldn't surprise me. I've invited 2 people. I have mentioned the group in a few others though.

Bill wrote: "Hi, i'm Bill. Followed the link from The Malazan Fallen discussion board. Failed in my first attempt to read The Blade Itself on my own so figured I would join this group read to motivate myself."
Welcome Bill.
Welcome Bill.

Oh, and I'm quite close to the end of 'Last Argument of Kings' which is rather good if anyone is interested :)
Welcome Damian.

Some of us will be reading that here in August.

Need to get there first.
We're doing 1 book from the First Law trilogy for the next 3 months. We are currently reading/discussing The Blade Itself.
And We'll be doing Before They Are Hanged in July.

Wow. That makes 60 people. I'm pretty sure I've only invited 2 of you, so I'm impressed it's that large.
Of course 24 people have made 0 comments. Another 8 have made 1 comment.
Still, much larger than I would have guessed.

He also suggested some other people and invited me to the Malazan group. I'm a huge fan of the series and read all 10 books 2 years ago.
Then I recognized that a few of the "new" people I met, where all reading "The Blade itself" at the moment, as am I, and all where part of this group.
As I was not a big fan of the giant book clubs with a gazillion members, I joined this one, cause it seemed cozy. Looking forward to share thoughts and discuss books with you guys! :)
