When I lived in the Pacific Northwest, I sometimes went hiking in April after the snows melted and the rains died down. It was a time when the forests came alive with the Spring. The earthy smells and cool air were memorable. My favorite hikes were at Mount Si west of Seattle, the North Cascades, and Mount St. Helens. I especially enjoyed hiking on the Olympic Peninsula in the rainforest (when it wasn't raining).
