Jace and Clary's relationship... do they really love each other?

Jace and Clary on the other hand were more like a "love at first sight", which one could argue, isn't really a love at all. It's lust. They feel compelled to be together yet I never saw any reasons as to why, other than the superficial, "you're hot, I'm hot, lets get together". So to conclude, team Clase really has some work to do.

It just seems like there,s more to their relationships than Clary and Jace's
I see now that Cassandra Clare's writing in TMI isnt as great as in TID

Yer I do think its love but Cassie hasn't portrayed that. I remember In COFA I think Clary is looking at a photo of her and Jace sitting on the steps of the institute now I can't remember if she was a reading a book and he was hugging her or what (something along those lines) but we don't actually hear about that happening. I think because it was a trilogy something's can't be changed but by Cassie injecting little things like the photograph here and there that's her way of trying to show there's more depth to them then what just been written

I'm excited for City of Heavenly Fire!
I actually am counting down the days already.... 269 days to go! lol

They have more history in those two months that most people have in a lifetime, I do believe them in love, for one can hardly live without the other.

Also, I do think they love eachother. My dad married my stepmom after three months of actually getting to know her.

Hahahha you're not the only one

I tend to believe that most romantic relationships can be put into 2 categories:
#1)The relationship can be based on both characters having tons of interests and activities in common and form a deep friendship between them that turns into a romantic love.
And #2)The 2 people in the relationship may not have a lot in common but just by having that other person in their life they become a better person themselves and that can turn into romantic love, too.
Jace and Clary are friends but their most like the 2nd one; they may not have a similar background or read the same books or listen to the same music but they respect each other, they consider one another the most important person in their lives and are empowered and given strength by one another. That is what makes them an amazing couple, just by thinking about the other they get an intense feeling of calm and love and want to return those feelings <3 Oh, I just LOVE Clace!! <3
Plus they share a wicked sense but of humor ;)

Like Jace was attracted to something about her rather than thought she was smokin hot. He even talks about stuff he likes like how she went to rescue Simon from the vampires.
From what I can gather clary is kinda pretty and closer to average than gorgeous. So I really think Jace loves her for her and not just all horny for her.
Clary on the other hand is ALWAYS going on and on about his hotness. Sure she has prob grown to like other things about him but even so she NEVER stops going on and on about his hotness. So she is def dating up in that sense.
So I guess Jace at least fell in love with her while she fell in love with his body and to be fair, he does sound pretty hot.
Regardless, Clary annoys the crap out of me coz she does come off as so superficial.

Some would dispute that its not "love" if the other person doesn't love you back. If so, does Simon really love Clary?

I love that! It's like they have the same souls. They see and understand each other in the deep dark spaces of their hearts.

Like Jace was attracted to something about her rather than thought she was smokin hot. He even talks about st..."
No I don't quite agree...there were more than one occasion where Clary did not just brag about Jace and his hotness (which by the way I think was CC's doing because its a YA book and us readers would want more of the hot blonde guy than that of the lucky chick who gets to be with him)...Clary loves Jace not because he's strong but because she can see through his spiky armour and down to the softie, gentle guy he truly is and she loves that hidden part of him.

I <3 you Christie...you just spoke all our Clace fans' thoughts just in a much better way

okay, back to my other comment up there. ^"
Agreed!
I think they love each other, and yes they have lustful moments. ;) COHF
Clace needs to chill with being reckless, but otherwise they're pretty cute.

I love how in After the Bridge by Cassie Clare, Tessa says "A Fairchild and a Herondale... I like that. The Fairchilds are so practical and the Herondales are... Well, you know." And I'm just like Clary? Practical? Lol

When Tessa is with James, she listens to his violin and when she and Will get together they read poetry. If you ask me if there is an iota of love amongst them, I will say yes.
If Clary and jace were really in love, they will be more normal. They could have talked about simple things or jokes. Or go for a walk or drive. They don't have to speak anything. That is love. With Simon, she shares friendship and that history would be great had they been in love. Some may argue that everything will be predictable. Clare wants us to believe that the love is true but she gave us very little reason to suppose they do.
On that note, this being a teen novel, it will have unbelievable love at first rights disguised as true love. Characters will race against time to save one another. I am not implying that there is no love. Its not obvious.

lol do i rant much? not at all...

;) agreed

Clary says in the City of Bones at one point that, 'in all that had been going on, she had actually forgotten that Jace was good-looking.' So, she really wasn't paying that much attention to his looks to begin with. Yes, I think that Clary cared whether Jace thought she was pretty or not, but she never seemed to think of him in a romantic way until he kissed her in the greenhouse. Before that, he was just an unattainable, attractive guy at the Institute.
As for Jace, well, he claims that something 'felt wrong' when he saw Simon and Clary in the coffee shop. By that point, he felt a certain pull towards her, and maybe that's a little unrealistic, but it's fantasy. Then Jace tells Clary the story of his childhood, when his father killed his bird. Jace didn't tell Clary that story just so that she'd think he was sexy or something, he told her it because he wanted her to know him, and even though he never mentions that he's the boy in the story, Clary clearly figures it out. If he was just lusting after her the entire series, then don't you think that he would have had sex with her in the first book? Why would he wait the whole series when he clearly could have had her by the middle of the City of Bones? That doesn't make sense.
Besides, Jace and Clary have been through a lot together, and you don't stay with someone for the next five years, (as is mentioned in Lady Midnight,) just because you think that they have a good body.
No, I really and truly believe that Jace loves Clary, and she him. Yes, I do agree that they attempt to have sex many times, but they're teenagers, and that's what teenagers do, even if they love each other to that extent.
The Mortal Instruments is an amazing series, and I think it teaches us a valuable lesson; that love does not destroy, love conquers all. As the inscription in the Shadowhunter's Codex read, "To love or not, in this we stand or fall."
I think it could've been developed better, their love for each other. But maybe because it was originally supposed to be a trilogy, Cassandra Clare couldn't really change it? Idk :S
