By the end of the book, I was extremely disappointed. What do you feel about the Infernal Devices?

This was a difficult story to wrap up. But I think Cassandra Clare did a wonderful job wrapping it up.

I was kind of disappointed with the epilogue but the rest was amazing

I think she could have ended it better. I realize she would want to give the Jem lovers a happy ending but I kind of wish she would have described will&tessa's lives when they were older. I don't know but it's mainly because she tried to fit so much into one chapter....maybe it's just me though. But otherwise the entire book was perfect.

Come on. What other YA has the protagonist end up with both love interests?

It's like watching the Miss Universe pagent or American Idol where the judges say, "What the hell, you both rock, we can't decide". It's like getting two suprises inside a Kinder Egg.

Cassandra Clare managed to break the YA fiction rules. (the ones that dictate there must be a screaming mob of teenage girls from the team that doesn't end up with the main girl)For that I applaud you C.C.

True, but isn't that kind of weird??? What if she has kids with Jem too? That would be a weird family tree because one of tessa&wills descendants ends up with a carstairs and they have a kid so.....

That was well said. I really did feel awful in the second book because how could she possibly have both? i didnt want to choose between Will and Jem because they were so different. I think that the love story she created between the three was amazing. I thought that maybe Tessa would marry jem and then when Jem died she would eventually marry will, but i think that cassandra's story was more realistic and romantic. Like even with Will growing old while Tessa stayed young, she still loved him the same. i thought Cassandra did pretty well.

I wanted her with Will which she got, but I didn't like the fact she gets both. She doesn't deserve both. Seemed like an attempt at best-of-both-worlds to me. And I am still grieving over Will's death. That hurt.

Plus, in the other two books she honestly seemed to be IN love with Will, whereas just loving Jem. But this one, Clare made it "equal." That I disagree with.

Just think about it- Cassie Clare was in such a difficult position.
Half her fans were saying,
"If Will doesn't get Tessa I'm going to hate Cassandra Clare."
While the other half were going,
"If Jem doesn't get Tessa I'm going to hate Cassandra Clare."

So she was in a REALLY difficult spot.

I loved the way she wrapped it up- everyone was happy, there were unexpected twists. It was such a bittersweet ending.

I love The Infernal Devices and Cassandra Clare, and I really appreciate the way she finished this amazing series.

Yeah, but in the end, it didn't make Tessa look so great. Sure, fans would have been disappointed if she would have chosen one of the two men but it's a little too convenient that she ended up with both.

But just remember- by the time Tessa joined up with Jem, Will had been dead for YEARS. It is the same in reality, when two people divorce or one of them dies. You can't expect them to remain alone forever. They deserve a second chance.

This last book broke my heart in so many places. One was in the epilogue where Tessa decided she couldn't be with her kids and grandchildren and watch them grow and die. Most parents want to see their children grow and be happy, I feel for Tessa having the knowledge that she'd also have to see them die, and she'd still have to go on.

Did I infer correctly that she and Will did not become active Shadowhunters?

Brittany, I LOVED the epilogue! We got to see very uniquely and succinctly what had happened after the main story ended...the real life, the juice, the everyday. That's what I love and loved.

The ending. Im sorry, but it made Tessa look...off. I don"t know. The rest of the book was AMAZING though. Just talking bout the ending :C

But I loved how Cassandra Clare was able to somehow get Tessa with BOTH will and jem! It was kind of sad though, how she never really fully described will adn tessa marriage and all....

I was disappointed as well.
The book was predictable. There wasn't much action (I kind of wanted a war and what not)
Tessa didn't do much except in that scene she did.
The epilogue.
I guess we are in the minority but you know it's nice I wasn't the only one who was disappointed.

I was hoping that there would be more to the great Infernal Device battle, but there wasnt. Tessa just Changes and all, and then theyre all dead 0-0

EXACTLY! like you had all these awesome battles in TMI, and in TDI I was like hoping for this drastic battle and well.. there was just.. nothing.

It was so quick, I barely noticed a thing. And what happened at the council meeting? U never really know except the automatons dropped dead

and then the last couple of pages are basically everything cooling down.
The whole council thing though? I didn't realize what happened until afterwards and I was like oh. That happened?

I think these series were more focused on the characters themselves as a sort of supporting trilogy to the main TMI books. A series in their own right but not quite complete unless read in tandem.

I was really thrown by the ending, not quite sure in a good or bad way. Tessa falls in love with Will. Pursues him in her own way. Tries to get over him and focuses on Jem. Burns her hand when the truth comes out. Does her best to ignore Will. Sleeps with him hours after finding out Jem was dead. Marries him. Bears his kids. Stays with him to the very end. And yet through it all, kept the jade necklace??

Now I'm not very experienced at being a female shapeshifter but it seems very...odd to me. But maybe that's just us humans. Or maybe it's just me.

I'm still trying to recover. I am happy for Jem, though. I hope we get to see more of them in the future! I think it would be really fun to see them interact with the other characters! I really hope Tessa finds a way to become mortal and able to die with Jem!!!!!!

I couldn't enjoy the last book though, it was too focused on her love life.
After the first two books I was certain I would love this series more than The Mortal Instruments but I didn't. I may not like Clary in the Mortal Instruments (in CoLS I was resisting the urge to kill her) but all the secondary characters and the whole plot make it worth it.

I think she does because Magnus needs a way to become mortal for Alec (did anyone hear that cassie said that Alec shares a moment with someone other than Magnus in CoHF? :O :'( )

I was completely the opposite of disappointed with it. I loved it. I like that Tessa ends up getting both guys in the end, and from C.C.s writing I understand the love Tessa has for both so I guess that's why I was pleased with the ending. And I think the way C.C.s gets certain details in the story for her other books and future books is absolutely brilliant!

Firstly what you said Emily I completely agree with...
Secondly Shadhunter girl why don't you think Tessa deserves both loved...and even if she doesn't deserve it doesn't Jem deserve his happily ever after?

I liked it to be honest, but I just didn't like how Tessa's an immortal. It seems as though her love for Will and Jem isn't as meaningful as i want it to be. I mean this goes to the whole Magnus and Alec debacle (though I stopped reading after City of Glass). I hope in the two Mortal Instruments books that is yet to come, Cassandra Clare would add in a cure for immortality so that Tessa and Jem would be able to grow old together as well as Alec and Magnus.

Okay personally, I thought everything after Will's love letter to Tessa was kind of dragging. But I don't know if it's just me, but I loved the Epilogue! It was probably because I loved Jem, but Tessa talking about Will's death and their lives together made me sob uncontrollably. Also, I think the scene with the automatons and Mortmain shouldn't have been so easy to get out of the way they all did....

I love how the Collectors First Edition of Clockwork prince was the love letter, yet it's in Clockwork Princess xD

There is another series being written (TLH?) that will give all the people who wanted more about Will and Tessa's love life more info ... Maybe not from their point of view, but their kids' point of view :)

P.S. I loved everything about how the series ended and I feel like Cassandra Clare did a really great job with filling in as many gaps as she possibly could. I also liked that the epilogue linked to CoHF .. now I'm excited for it!!!

The title has not been revealed but it is said to take place between TID and TMI. Which may mean...MORE WILL! I AM SO HAPPY!

Yes! Just google it and I'm sure tons of stuff will show up about it :) She is also writing a 5th shadowhunter series after TDA so we will have shadowhunter stories for at least 10 more years haha

I admit it was a good ending, I knew it had to happen, but it left me feeling deeply empty. It made me so sad... :( But, again, I knew it had to happen...but like Tessa I thought about it so hard, who I liked better, and in my heart it'll end up being Will, but i just loved him and Jem a lot...hmph...

I just finished reading Clockwork Princess a while ago and IT WAS SOOOOOOOOO GOOOD! I wasn't dissapointed, I was actually surprised in how it ended :) I'm completely fangirling over this book! It's PERFECT :D

I know exactly what you mean. It was just so sad.

I hate when authors makes the choices the characters were forced to make superfluous by giving them everything they wanted in the end. I think James made a choice and he should not have been able to go back on it. I thought the ending was nice, however I hate that feeling that it didn't matter in the end because it was all going to work out...

I think I feel the same way... I loved the end, but I didn't undertand why did Jem get that second chance... Maybe it will all make more sense when we read City of Heavenly Fire

Ive been wondering about this, and I was curious to know what others thought this may mean....

*SPOILERS*

So after Will and Tessa totally, well,got INTIMATE (after Will came to rescue her from Mortmain "blah blah blah" and after he told her Jem "died", ya know?)
Well when Tessa woke up sometime that night after falling asleep with her head on his arm... She said her clockwork angel was resting on his shoulder or collar bone? (whatever) anyway, so when she moved it away and off of him it left the imprint of a tiny white STAR?? like, what the hell? Was that from the angel inside of it? Or was it a side-effect from him having sex with her?
Then Magnus saw it when he appeared in the room later on and was moved by it. however, he said nothing. Then he made a comment to Will at the end of the book while leaving the x-mas party, saying something on the lines of (this is not a direct quote, taking it from the best of my recollection here): "You are a bright star Will. You burn so much fiercer than the rest" - The quote is very similar to that.

NOW I dont know if Magnus was just saying that, or if it specifically had to do with the star mark left on him after tessa and him did it. Or maybe it has nothing to do with that at all....

im glad I got all that out. It feels great

the star was from being in contact with the angel, i think. if youve read TMI it says that jace has the same star on his shoulder because its a birth mark passed on from some shadowhunter ancestor who came in contact with an angel. jace is a herondale and one of Will's descendants so it makes sense

Hmm, that makes sense. I mustve missed that part in TMI. so Tessa would have some sort of star mark too? Since she actually turned into an angel? seriously, confusing. but thanks though.

I was also really upset by Will's death..I'm glad he got his happy ending though...
I'm also upset that Jem just came back like that..I mean i loved him too, but I felt like this happy ending was too happy..Tessa didn't really deserve two beautiful endings, two loves..
