Welcome everyone! I am Kirstin Pulioff, the moderator for the Young Adult area of the group, and I am so excited to meet you! Young Adult is such a great category of books.

Why do I LOVE young adult? Well, it covers the good, the bad, the dark, and the fun of reading! It can be in any genre… but it covers the tough themes of growing up, asserting yourself, and the harsh realities (or fantasies) of life.

With so much to cover, let’s all jump in. :) Let’s stick to the topic, talk books, have fun with games, and get to know each other. The best way to find your next read is through recommendations from others… share the love, but let’s keep the self-promotion to a minimum.

I will be checking in, commenting and looking forward to meeting you all. If you want more info about me, check out www.kirstinpulioff.com.

Elizabeth Yu-Gesualdi | 21 comments Hi Kristin! I'm new to the club and just learning the in's and out's of the YA world (aside from the one that I actually lived through which was a long, long, long, long time ago). I'll be checking in from time to time just to keep on top of things and learn from everyone's expertise. Can't wait!

haha! That's the fun of YA, you can enjoy it from any age... the reality of living through it, and from the experience learned haven already gone through.

Happy to have you here, and excited to get your take on some of the new reads, and options of some old classics... the good, the bad, the scary and the fun!

Georgie | The Reading Valkyrie (thereadingvalkyrie) I love YA novels. I read an article recently that said 70% of YA Novels are read by adults. I think it great really, I'm only twenty three so I'm still on the edge of YA but I quite like reading the books and sometimes i feel I'm getting a little too old to read them.

So I like what this group is about, I don't feel too old and I quite like it that we can compare an recommend our favourite reads...

So for me, why do i like YA books?

I like YA books because they act as kind of a reminder for me, like falling for my first love, dealing with certain situations of home life and because I personally feel I've grown up quite a bit (I feel more 43 than 23) I can feel the excitement and adventure of growing up all over again :)

I like that statistic! Shows that even though we grow up, we can still relate to, grow and enjoy that part of our life... the struggle are so much fun too!

... and I hope at 43 you feel 23! :)

Greta Burroughs (gretab) I love YA books as well. Most of the books I have read have a fantasy element to them. I think YA books are so attractive to adults is because they are just fun to read without any heavy storyline.

Cynthia Stacey (cynthia_stacey) | 16 comments I was on summer vacation a few years back and was looking for an easy read for the pool. I came across the immortal series by Alyson Noel. I was hooked. I then branched out to Claudia Gray with her Evernight series. That was it for me. I've been hooked ever since. I'm not sure what it is about them but I love them all in all genres. I am long past my young adult years but still enjoy them. I find I read the same stuff my kids do and that gives us one more thing to relate to.

Katie (katiehayoz) | 7 comments Hi all,
I've been reading YA forever and don't think I will ever stop, despite my age! I love realistic stories that have a paranormal edge.

Elizabeth Yu-Gesualdi | 21 comments I have very exciting news to share! Well, at least it's very exciting for me. My novel, Broken Road, has just won August New Adult Romance Novel Book of the Month here on Goodreads (YA & NA Romance Group). Doing the Happy Dance! A very special thank you to all those that voted for it. I so appreciate the support I've been receiving.

Is it what we used to call bildungsoman?"

Lol! It just stands for Young adult, a type of book that can take just about any genre reading route of fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian, historical, steam punk, etc. There are a ton of YA writers out there, Cassandra Clare, Suzanne Collins, JK Rowling (of course), Richelle Mead, etc. So many fun works. Hope you find one....or more that you like. :-)
