The Guardian has an interesting challenge: how to guard and guide Chelsea, a young witch just coming into her powers, without squelching her independence?
For a time, Chelsea lives a more or less normal life. She has a best friend, Miranda, who is not a witch, but who is very protective and loyal to Chelsea. As Chelsea gets closer to the age when she will come into her full powers, life gets less and less normal. The Guardian has to step in a number of times.
It soon becomes clear to Chelsea that she will soon have to defend herself against a truly evil force--Drake. She also learns something very alarming about herself that she thought was impossible.
Thanks a bunch

i'd like to read more of it!
i'd like to read more of it!

When her neighbors accuse Belladonna of Satanism and making them age years to days, she must find who is behind it or face a modern day witch hunt. Her mysterious enemy knows where to strike to cause the most damage: Belladonna's only friend is losing his life-force; the garden that feeds her is dying; and her house ghost goes poltergeist. To save her neighbors and friends and prove her innocence, she must travel to the Otherworld where butterflies have razor wings and where her worst fears will come to life.
Larisa this story sounds epic! I would love to support it and read it sometime. A witch without magic? That is very unique. What a catchy title and I love the synopsis of the story. Looking forward to a great read.

You can check it out by going to my profile page and reading up on it. I even have posted a sample chapter.
I would love to hear what everyone thinks about the epic time travel novel and I enjoy getting people to use their imagination.
Happy Reading :-)

Thanks, Darius. That's music to my little soul. :) How does this work? Do I supply you with a copy? I am brand new.
My book is free today and tomorrow. Thanks in advance.
Free on Kindle 4/2-4/4.
For Taylor Scott, scientist and Christian, genetic experimentation collides with faith, conspiracy, totalitarianism, liberty and the fight for survival in the near future. Playing God has its consequences.
Scott wants to create a better world for an austere, government-controlled society. He creates a creature to fulfill that desire. His intellectual property is surreptitiously pirated and modified for the government’s plan for complete domination. Conflicting with his Christian view, his journey with fellow scientist and Christian, Christine Summers is one of discovery and danger. Trying to right the wrong, they encounter the government and Asterion, their first creation who seeks their extermination and the forces of freedom that recruit them in the fight for liberty.
Asterion blends science fiction into a political techno-thriller set in a dystopian world that while still distant, is on the horizon of time.

I have two novels published. A brief review of "Games of Adversaries" to give you an idea of what I write:
Games of Adversaries is written with an eclecticism that takes the clash of cultures conflict to places it has never known. On one hand is a civilization of such technological refinement that it's citizens are virtually immune to the vagaries of nature, controlling their environment as easily as you or I would flip a light switch. What could possibly be a threat to the individual, especially a prince of the realm, in such a utopia? On the other hand, we have a world in which the people must respect the uncaring whims of Mother Nature or die. A place where the height of technology is a reliable water supply.
That such vastly different groups find one another is a story as old as humankind and as new as the dawn of each day. Where the natural ills of the world have been mastered, only the evil intent of one's fellow beings presents danger. And that menace results in the prince of an unthinkably advanced kingdom being undone. So perfectly exiled that his survival, and that of the men he comes to know and rely upon, requires coming to terms with the serpent in Eden as well as the deficiencies ease of life has made in his character.
Games of Adversaries is much more than particle beam weapon meets poleax. It is an exploration of the fundamental meaning of humanity and how character is forged in the fires of adversity.
Then, my latest, which is only just out: :"The Voice of the Land" which is the beginning of a trilogy with each novel 500 years apart. Inspired by an article in an encyclopedia about the parallels between humans and bats and a thesis where someone combined human and bat blood. And, no, it isn't about vampires *G* but an alien race--or are they?
Highly original and a must read. On the one hand is Steven Caragan, who is not a 'person'. He is a clone owned by an Earth consortium and he has been conditioned to have no feelings, only to obey without question. But he does have feelings and a friend in the form of another clone, who commits suicide. Now Caragan is dispatched to find out what drove his friend to this unthinkable act.
On a planet the natives call Cavan, Caragan finds a planet so in tune with its spirit that even the plants turn against him. There is no escape without a change so profound that Carogan must embrace all he has been conditioned to repress, or be driven insane. The high priest of the Cavalana is the catalyst to force Caragan to change. Can he evolve, or will he die? Read on to find out.
Meant to say there is a free download on smashwords for "Games" and it is 99c on kindle right now as a promo for the new book. http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/...

My name is SKN Hammerstone and My book, The Rift is a YA gothic/ paranormal horror book. The description on the back of the book goes as follows:
"Is death really the end? or can people come back... Rachael Taylor has returned from the grave with no memory of who she is or which of the two worlds she exists in is real. In one world she is a teenager living what is considered the normal life. In the other she is tormented night and day in a burning city. When strange creatures start to invade both worlds, she must discover what she is before everything collapses."
Without giving away too much, Rachael finds out that she is half-angel and half-demon and has been the subject of prophecies for hundreds of years: ever since the veil keeping Hell out of Earth tore and Heaven and Hell were forced to combine, becoming this burning city that she sees and visits.
There is a love triangle in it (of course :)) involving her sweet, adorable guardian angel who has been desperately in love with her ever since the day he was first assigned her when they were both little kids. His name is Jesse Reynolds and his only purpose in life, the only reason he was born, was to protect and guard her.
The other man in the picture is the angel of death himself; Joshua. He is a man consumed by his own hate and rage after being forced to reap his own mother's soul after murdering the previous angel of death. He has been cursed since that day to lose the only woman he would ever love and has formed an obsession with Rachael, keeping her alive even after she dies more than once.
When his jealousy takes over, Joshua accidentally tears the veil again, releasing one of Heaven's greatest enemies into the world to take it over. Joshua kidnaps Rachael and tries to hide her from the archangels who are searching for her to use her to repair the veil.
Terrified and shocked, Rachael's only comfort is when Jesse forces Joshua to take him along.
The comfort quickly ends when Jesse admitts he sold her to Joshua in order to keep her safe when his limitations were reached in what he could do to protect her.
PS: my favorite character is Jesse. I have always had a thing for the sweet, adorable "baby boy" type characters.

Brief synopsis - The Kingdoms of Kaynos have been at peace for nearly a thousand years. Now the ambitions of a dark sorceress armed with a new, deadly type of magic called witchcraft threaten to tear the Kingdoms to pieces.
Meanwhile, locked deep in the bowels of Zeaburg's infamous, horror-filled subterranean prison the young druid Slade is haunted by a strange, recurring dream. A dream in which his beloved father, High King Erich of Vestland, pleads for Slade's help. Convinced of the dreams truth Slade must somehow attempt the impossible and escape the inescapable Zeaburg prison in order to find and save his father.
Gathering an unlikely assortment of allies along the way Slade must not only find a way out of Zeaburg prison but must also find a way to prevent what threatens to be the bloodiest, most brutal war in the history of all the Kingdoms of Kaynos.
Will an unimaginable alliance, an unlikely friendship and a forbidden love be enough to save the Kingdoms of Kaynos?
The series is very character driven and poses the question of how far would you go to save someone/thing you love? It's an action packed adventure with many twists and turns along the way. There's plenty of mystery, intrigue and betrayals as the MC, Slade, tries to find High King Erich and at the same time unravel the truth behind the evil sorceress, Shallendara's, actions and motives.
Erich's Plea is currently free, and will remain so for some time, from Amazon US & UK as well as Smashwords.

Look it up on Goodreads. Kindle and paperback available at amazon.com.

I have two YA fantasy novels available:

Look into "Wool" by Howie. A very different sci-fi and an interesting POV of a dystopian world.

Thirteen-year-old Neto Lexan, an alien exchange student from Earth, is consumed by disturbing nightmares about his journey to Beta Mole. His uneasiness about these freaky flashbacks is magnified when he meets another student from Earth who is haunted by similar nightmares. Together Net and Shayna unravel a secret that could have a catastrophic effect on the entire universe. Suddenly, Shayna disappears and Net is determined to find her. Terrifying adventures await Net as he discovers that the people he trusts are somehow tied to the dark secret he is uncovering. Will he be able to save Shayna and solve the mystery before he becomes the next victim?
Thanks for considering my book. I wrote it during dental school and it helped me de-stress.
We all want to talk about our own books. Let's face it, we all want to sell a few copies. We want to be *read*. On a site like this most of us are either self-published or published by small presses. We don't have the clout which traditionally published authors have.
So my question is, why do you think anyone is going to read your book when there are a million others in the queue?
Is it edited to the nth degree? Are the characters amazing and the plot edge of your seat? Why should I shell out my money for your novel and not someone else's? Do you have genuine reviews on your books, or are they your aunties and uncles who only wish to cheerlead your efforts.
Let's be honest. Tell us why we should buy your book.

Since I asked the question, I'll start off. Imagine you are at a convention and either the agent of your dreams is standing right in front of you, or a room full of readers just waiting to read. You have five minutes.
The first question anyone asks is: What is your book about?
My answer would be:
"Games of Adversaries" is about contrasts. The story opens with two men, one fighting a brutal snow storm outside a castle, the second dancing to his god on a distant world of wealth and advancement.
Two men from different worlds brought together by tragedy and need against a common threat. Complex men who grow to understand one another through pain and war and why sometimes it is necessary to fight.
The underlying theme of PTSD runs through the story and how that affects people.
But there is also the fun of writing a story with spaceships and castles in the same context. The confusion of different ideologies. The stench of medieval life versus modern conveniences. There is arrogance of strength versus mysticism and arrogance of, I have the strength to take your world, try stopping me.
And since I have it available, a quote from a reader:
This is a clear-eyed book that does not flinch from a difficult subject and it also has a large overarching plot with the fates of planets hanging on the outcome. Marcus and Yiahan, especially, provide some wonderful character moments, as do the mostly male supporting cast. But Games of Adversaries managed to do what few books do: it satisfied my love of philosophical underpinnings. Much as I sometimes love simple, fluffy books because I need the lightness, few things make me as happy as a deep, complex book that gives me a few things to think about. Five stars for that and for taking me on an exciting journey between worlds.

Excellent question, Susan: Why would anyone buy my books? I am self-published and do not enjoy the clout of traditional publishers that promote their authors. So, my answer comes from why I buy books.
For the past year I have purchased only books, mostly e-books, from authors most people have never heard of—the great unknowns, and the operative word there is "great" for the books have almost all been great. No Pattersons, no Grishams, no Allendes, no Dunants—just authors like me who are doing their own promotion.
What intrigues me is title and the short blurb most authors write that describes their book. "Wool", for example, caught my attention. What a title! "Wool." Was it about the wool industry in, say, Australia, or some story about the wool industry in New England or Scotland. Until I read the descriptive blurb, I never connected the title with a dystopian tale about a remnant of humanity somewhere in the future. Wow! What a story, what a series. Amazing stuff by author Hugh Howey who has come into his own recently. But when I bought his books he was not known very well.
Reading only relatively unknown authors has afforded me amazing literature by writers who SHOULD be known because their works are great. Books by Neil Ostroff, K.M. Weiland, Maryann Miller, Diane René Christian, Richard Bard—many others whose work is wonderful and enjoyable. None is exactly a household name.
So, maybe my novel "For the Heart's Treasure" will intrigue someone, or my novel "Children of Bast: a Memoir" dictated by a tomcat named Gaylord will draw someone in just because it sounds different.
But, finally, my books were fun to write. I did them for me, and although I would love to be on the NY Times best seller list, I can live and be happy if I never make it there.
However, your question is important and we should all strive to answer it with the best work we can create. Thank you for posing it.
we should all strive to answer it with the best work we can create.
That is such a key statement. Very often we 'think' that we have done just that. Through lack of knowledge or sheer enthusiasm, and one of the questions authors often ask themselves is 'am I good enough?'. The pat answer to that is if you ultra confident and believe in what you have, then you already have your answer.
And it isn't simply a question of getting your sentences in the right order, but the whole package. There are thousands who can write a better or more lyrical sentence than me, but what lifts one author above another is putting those sentences together in a way that captures not only our imaginations but others'.
I do agree that we should write for us first, simply because we are then pouring our passion onto the page. Why else would we do it?
With the ability to self-publish, which is wonderful, it has opened up a whole applecart where no one is guarding the tailgate. Except for the readers. It is like we've become the market sellers of old, who stand on that cart and yell as loudly as possible 'buy my book', and quite honestly I dislike that, but at the same time, how then do we reach our audience? We literally have the world at our fingertips with each key stroke, but how we utilize that is a whole other question.

Here is my blurb and comments from my publisher.
Darkspire Reaches
http://www.kristell-ink.com/future-re...
Darkspire Reaches – C.N. Lesley
Her birth mother left her as a sacrifice to the Wyvern, believing a second
born twin had no soul.
Her foster mother thought Raven possessed the magic of the First born. She believed she raised a slave.
The emperor of all the lands believed she knew the secret of his birth and
that he must silence her.
Her tribe thought they could trade her for safe passage out of the
emperor’s lands.
The Wyvern knows better. He is coming for her. His fury has no limits.
Raven always knew nobody wanted her: Her own mother abandoned her as baby for a wyvern sacrifice. Saved by a local witch to a hard life of labor, Raven always fears a wyvern would hunt her. And when one does he takes her to the mountain aerie of Darkspire Reaches, where she encounters the mighty Drakken lord. Apart from being handsome and powerful, Connor is the most arrogant, self-centered, difficult man Raven has ever encountered. Instant power battles ensue leading to a sparkling love/hate relationship.
From Kristell Ink
Darkspire Reaches is a dark romantic fantasy, richly told and with characters so real, you cry for them. C N Lesley is masterful. This is for lovers of Ilona Andrews, Karen Chance, Sherrilyn Kenyon and such like.
C.N.Lesley is my by line as my legal name, Elizabeth Anne Hull, has already been taken by the very nice fantasy writer wife of Fred Pohl. And yes, I would love to spread the word about my book. Thanks for the opportunity.
Some good thoughts there, Donna. In this world where everything is seemingly at our fingertips, if we don't see results *instantly* often we see ourselves as failures. Forgetting, since someone else mentioned JKR in another post, that it takes time and persistence. Personally I've always gone for that exponential effect. Yes, some days I get frustrated, but most days it thrills me to get one more read.
Quality is essential, I agree with you on that. The problem right now with many is that don't know if their books are good enough until they publish them. Plus there is a slew of bad editors and bad advice out there right now.
So what do you do?
Some people insist you must spend money to make money. Do you want to make writing a career, or is it a hobby? There are so many questions before you press that 'publish' button. So many opportunities, too.
Don't rush it, is one key. And, yes, make sure you truly have done your very best.

and it so hard knowing who to trust now a-days, we have two fab cover designers & proof reader- but we have been lucky to find these :)
Yes, all those people on twitter who want to follow you, it is like those annoying phone calls you get and you want to shout "go away!" if I want to promote I will do my own research.

I found an incredibly nice cover artist - Kevin Radthorne - through deviant art and a friend's reccomendation. he hasn't done my covers yet but he is going to be working on a banner for my website for me. That part of it, if you can find the right people, is fun. Editors, well, my publisher has taught me so much, although that is something I feel (personally) I still need to work on. We have to be perfectionists when it comes to our final product. Well, that is my opinion *G* to gain credence. I asked myelf the other day, well, how serious do you want to be? And the answer is very serious, but I don't want to lose my passion tied up with 'stuff' i cannot personally do. I can't write easily if I am worrying about editing, cover art, formatting etc etc. Now, a lot of people can do all of that, but i can't. Doesn't make me less of a writer, but I ain't a publisher. I am a mother, a horse wrangler, a housewife, a baker, a... as well as a writer? I am not super woman, although I guess I'd love to be. *G*.

It has been only two generations since Arthur Warden seized the throne of Heddred from the Conradines, and now the crown rests on the head of Garad, sickly and weak. Shadows gather: legacies of the centuries-long rivalries for power, old betrayals, the endless plots of the courtiers, and the murmur of rebellion in the southern provinces…
Catwin, plucked from her life at the edge of the Kingdom, is thrust abruptly into the world of the Court when she is chosen by the Duke of Voltur to be a Shadow—spy, shield, and blade—to his niece, the Lady Miriel DeVere. The Duke’s ruthlessness is legendary, and he will stop at nothing to become the power behind the throne, using Miriel as a pawn to catch Garad’s heart.
But the Duke's carefully-laid plans are only a piece of the intrigue of the court, and greater forces than Catwin can imagine are massed against her, determined to eliminate Miriel and impose a new order of their own. If Catwin and Miriel are to survive, they must learn quickly who to trust, and when to turn their skills against the very people who have trained them...
I was thinking of 'serialising' one of my novels on my blog. As a friend pointed out, I am no Ilona Andrews with hundreds of followers, so is there any point? I am thinking of changing the blog part of my website to wordpress because weebly doesn't seem to get any followers. But back to the serialisation. One of the things I'd like to do is to make me write something at least once a week. Although I have many novels under my belt, lately life has got in the way and I've got out of a routine, and I was hoping this might get me back into one.
I'd like some thoughts on this. Am I wasting my time, well, it wouldn't be a waste because I would be writing, but for getting readers? Would you bother reading something on a weekly basis or would you start off enthusiastic and then 'forget' about it?

It 'is' a selfish exercise, if I think about it. And, yes, it is never a waste of time to write.

'Dreams Of Azenaria' is a gateway to another time and another place. A dark and twisted place that holds either the salvation or the destruction of an ancient race known as O'orn. Only the three Ritchell men can decide the fate of the O'orn, but only if they first can save themselves. It will take three generations for the fight to be decided.
Danshaw, Brevlin and Landar Ritchell are just regular guys, or so they always thought. A father and his two teenage sons who are trying their best to get on with their lives years after their wife and mother died. Landar only wants a peaceful life for his boys, but when secrets from a generation past come back to haunt them, they are torn apart from each other. Separately, they must fight against an evil that not only wants to destroy them, but wants to undo the lives they have created.
If you enjoy epic fantasy from the masters like Terry Brooks, Weis & Hickman, David Eddings, and Robert Jordan, you will enjoy your journey in Azenaria.
Book II, 'Memories Of Azenaria', will be available in late 2013.
Thanks

Dragontamer's Daughters, Part 2: Stormcaller

As time goes by, the girls learn more about those powers, and about Pearl. But time is running out for them, their family, and for Pearl herself. Soon, they will be forced to contend with the native people on whose lands they live. With the ambitious governor whose soldiers hunt the girls’ father. A cross between The Wind In The Willows & The Lord of the Rings. It took 19 years for it to be published, it went through every major publishing house and was supposed to come out from Harper Collins in 2008 but that fell apart.
Read the sample pages, I think anyone who loves classic fantasy will love Carrot Field :)
Hello! My name is Philip Morgan, and my first novel was published on Dec. 1st, 2012. It's the first book of a trilogy (I'm working on the second book now), and it's called "The Hopewell Conspiracy: A Darkstar Steam Novel".
In the briefest of phrases, it's a sort of Lord of the Rings meets Fallout, by way of A Fistful of Dollars. It's the story of a man named Judes, a gunfighter wandering the ruined, poisoned land with no sense of purpose or direction. That is, until he stumbles across an unknown group attacking an Emperium transport airship that is carrying a weapon of supreme and deadly power left over from the fallen Invaders, an alien race that nuked the planet two centuries past. Not only does Judes find himself drawn into a conflict designed to bring the Emperium to its knees, but he learns that the gun he carries has its own strange and terrible secret that may be more dangerous than the thing he pursues!
It's available on both Amazon and Smashwords, and has one review so far. I'd love the chance to have it discussed.

About the Author :
J.T. Brown is a paranormal fantasy/science fiction author, who lives in Downeast, Maine. J.T. has always been drawn to the ocean, maybe because she spent most of her days on her father’s lobster boat as a child, or maybe it’s the phenomenon that shakes her cage daily. The Reversing Falls, which sits on the coast of Maine has always sang its mysteries across the twisting currents of the ocean, but for J.T. that song has always been a tale, waiting to bleed its story across the pages of “The Reversing World’s Trilogy.”

“This station is responsible for protecting Mirian’s market district. You’ll be dealing with theft, murder, violent gangs, angry shopkeepers, fires, drunks, lost cats and everything in between...you’ll see the best and worst of people. You’ll see enough blood to rival the city’s busiest fish mongers and surgeons and there will be times you’ll want to crawl into a hole or a bottle and not come out. But if you can keep a keen eye on the man beside you and remember that in this district you follow my orders, not the Commander's, the Count’s or the God's if you can handle all of that then I’m happy to have you...if not I’m sure the Talon are looking for men...” – Watch Captain Nathan Tam
Follow the overworked and underfunded City Watch as they endeavor to keep the port city of Mirian and themselves alive whilst competing against a vicious mercenary group to enforce a brutal crackdown on crime which forces a group of thieves to take whatever jobs they can to survive. However unbeknownst to all, a new threat moves through the city’s catacombs intent on transforming Mirian into a fetid grave for its inhabitants.
