johanna (jo) (johannad_m) | 7675 comments Frodo Baggins knew the Ringwraiths were searching for him - and the Ring of Power he bore that would enable Sauron to destroy all that was good in Middle-earth. Now it was up to Frodo and his faithful servant Sam to carry the Ring to where it could be detroyed - in the very center of Sauron's dark kingdom.

The beginning of it all. The Fellowship is formed and broken, Frodo is wounded, Aragorn reveals his identity.

M L Nunnally | 37 comments Sometimes, I feel like Boromir is a bit misunderstood. He didn't mean to take the ring. He just lost the struggle in resisting against it's power, and the last thing he did before he died was protecting the fellowship, making up for his stupid mistake.

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) | 7675 comments I agree, Miranda. He is misunderstood. People blame him because he wasn't strong enough . . . but really, would they have done any different? I think what's really admirable about Boromir, what set him apart from his father Denethor, is that he made up for his mistake. He died protecting Merry and Pippin. And that's awesome.

The Fellowship of the Ring is by far, my favorite book in the trilogy. It's a great movie too, though the battle in the second half of Return of the King is awesome too el oh el.

I have never thought Boromir was a bad guy or anything, or even put blame on him. I actually felt pity for him because despite his best efforts, he eventually succumbed to the ring and tried to take it from Frodo. Truly for one who is so noble as he, going against his word like that must have killed him inside. I feel like maybe he felt justified in then taking on the orcs that came for Frodo (subsequently taking Merry and Pippin in his place by mistake) to protect the Hobbits. At least he was able to rectify his mistake before he died and, at least in my books, wipe clean his slate.

Julia Okay, so I'm re-reading the series, and I came across something strange. I'm not sure if it's just this version or what....

Does Frodo really sell Bag Ends to Lobelia???

mels (padmeskywalkers) | 12768 comments Yep. He does. After all that work Bilbo did to keep it away from her...

Julia *facepalm*

Lobelia does redeem herself, though at the end of Return of the King, I believe...
But really, Frodo. There was no other way?

Julia Seriously!!! I know Merry and Pippin ended up going with him.. But what about the Gaffer? Let him stay in Bag End while he's gone!

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) | 7675 comments I thought Sam ended up having Bag End.

mels (padmeskywalkers) | 12768 comments He got it at the end.
But at the beginning, Frodo sold it to Lobelia and Lotho and moved to Crickhollow as a cover story, then he went off to Rivendell.

Jazzy (stairstepjitters) | 155 comments My family could start its own Tolkien fanclub in the heart of Africa. My dad is a huge fan, my mom likes the books but not as much as my brother and I do. So many childhood memories of sticks and orcs made out of cloth and walking around with no shoes to pretend I was a "obbit" - I knew the story long before I ever read the books, which on a spoiler level was a bit disappointing, but I still loved the books. I love the establishment of the world Tolkien created and the beauty and simplicity of hobbits. You know when you say you love something and some budding smart-aleck says "Well, why don't you marry it?" I would definitely marry The Lord of the Rings.
