johanna (jo) (johannad_m) | 7675 comments The Fellowship was scattered. Some were bracing hopelessly for war against the ancient evil of Sauron. Some were contending with the treachery of the wizard Saruman. Only Frodo and Sam were left to take the accursed Ring of Power to be destroyed in Mordor–the dark Kingdom where Sauron was supreme. Their guide was Gollum, deceitful and lust-filled, slave to the corruption of the Ring. Thus continues the magnificent, bestselling tale of adventure begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its soul-stirring climax in The Return of the King.

Merry & Pippin captured! The Ents roused! Isengard ruined! Smeagol tamed! The second book in the Lord of the Rings epic trilogy.

What do you think? Did you like it better than The Fellowship ... or worse? Favourite character now? Favourite moment? Discuss everything to do with this book here!

brooke1994 (formerlynarnian525) | 1174 comments So, I was swimming on vacation and I was talking to this girl. She asked me what my favorite movies were. When I answered The Lord of the Rings movies, she gave me a weird look. I'm just thinking: Ok then. I didn't want to appear rude so I just smiled on the outside.

Pity the non-LOTR fans (and the non-geeks). They don't know what they're missing out on.

Yes, I guess you could say I was inwardly seething. And yes, they don't know what they're missing out on.
