Christine (c-mac) | 96 comments I'm so excited to read this one! I somehow missed it in high school. It seems like fantastic vacation reading.

We'll start the discussion here on/about May 1. Please no spoilers until after May 20 to give everyone a chance to read.

Michelle (actionflikchick) YAY! I have this book already on my shelf AND the movie is out in May as well.

Christine (c-mac) | 96 comments I've been slacking but I'M BACK! Has anyone in the group already read this book (in high school or college maybe) and willing to lead the discussion?

Mirriam Seddiq (mirriam71) | 1 comments Hi ladies. I don't understand the mechanics of goodreads or how this works. I did read this book and am re-reading it and everything else FSF wrote because he was bff with Hemingway. I'd like to join this. Let me know how I do that.

Christine (c-mac) | 96 comments Hi Mirriam! Glad to see you here. If you're not already a member of this group, join away so you get the updates, and let's get to discussing! I think we're all a little behind on this book, so I'm thinking we'll start the discussion next week or the week after -- if I'm the only one behind, please feel free to start talking about it.

There's no set format for discussion; pick something you'd like to talk about it and bring it up. Let's do this!

Carlos (cacastro) | 14 comments I am currently re-reading this book after many, many years of not reading it. I am much more appreciative of it now than I was before.

Jamie (moodreadingmagic) I've been MIA for quite some time. Thanks to my newest 6 month addition and my full time job I was too sleep deprived to read much aside from parenting books. Anyhow I am currently in between jobs AND my IRL book club is reading Great Gatsby too this month so looks like I'll be re-reading this :)

Christine (c-mac) | 96 comments Yeah! I'm just starting it (in the midst of a move and a discovery rush) so don't feel bad. We now have all summer to discuss. And I'm not just talking about Leonardo's hair.

Carlos (cacastro) | 14 comments Can we talk about Toby McGuire's green cardigan? That was the most glorious cardigan ever.

Christine (c-mac) | 96 comments WUT. No talking about the movie!!!!

At least not until I've seen it. :D

Jamie (moodreadingmagic) Ditto, not sure when I'll get to see it either

Erica M (ermohai14) I really enjoyed reading this one again. I read it in HS and then in college I think I just did the cliffs notes version :P When I sat down to read it I realized I couldn't remember a thing about the book!

I did go see the movie too. I know there were mixed reviews, but I enjoyed it!

JudgyK I absolutely HATED Gatsby when I read it in high school. Admittedly, I hated everything that year and in hindsight it was more the teacher / curriculum than any of the books we read - it was one of those Find Symbolism EVERYWHERE courses and it was awful.

When I re-read Gatsby I was astonished at how well-written it is, and also at how little of the actual story I'd retained. I remembered the characters (Daisy in particular, because, like the flower, she's white on the outside with all her white clothes, but yellow on the inside or something equally stupid) but the plot? Nothing.

But, MAN is it ever brilliant. Can't wait to catch the movie.

This. Not sure if you were an IB kid but I felt like every book I read in high school was ruined for me thanks to IB curriculum and it's fixation on symbolism.
