ONTD Book Club discussion

I'm sure everyone has a few they can't really remember.


The one that has been really bothering me (like for 6 years!!) is one I read when I was in 4th grade. It was 1990, but the book was old then, I'd guess at least 40 years... I got it at my elementary school library. No pictures or anything on the cover, it was one of those basic leather-bound books, either blue or black.

It was about a girl living in an old manor house. I'm guessing it was ghost story since I've always been a fan of them. I think there was a character named Emily. I think someone either had died of a coughing/wasting disease or was very sick and staying at the house to convalesce. I'm fairly sure it was set somewhere in Northern England.

It's not Jane-Emily.

The Secret Garden ? I loved the movie so so much as a child and finally read the book when I was a bit to old for it but loved it too. It kind of fits your description, but I'm not sure if there's an Emily in the book.

No, The Secret Garden has been one of my favorites since I was about 7. I have a gorgeous copy my Mom gave me years and years ago.

I'm sure I liked this book because it reminded me of The Secret Garden!
