Welcome to Modern Good Reads. As you would expect, we would like to keep this group organized and easily navigable. MGR was conceived out of a desire to provide a friendly and welcoming environment for both readers and writers to share their thoughts. To accomplish this in an organized and balanced way, we have some rules we expect all members to respect. Please know that we have these so ALL our members, both readers and authors, can communicate with each other in ways meaningful to them. These are the rules:

1. Fairness:

All members must treat other members with respect and dignity, not they would expect to be treated, but above that. No member should at any time feel threatened, or discouraged from posting their thoughts. Discussions and thoughtful debates are encouraged. Arguments, the use of epithets, and foul language are unacceptable. Any member who uses any slur, foul language, or epithets against another member will be immediately evicted. Also, please don't tell someone else they're stupid, a moron, an idiot, dumb, ignorant, or any other such disparaging naming conventions. They will not be tolerated either. We want our members to be our friends, and friends with one another, or at least friendly toward one another.

2. Posting Comments:

A) Any member may start topics. Please look in the category folder before starting a topic to see if one already exists. Duplicate topics will be removed. If the topic is already in discussion in another category, the Moderator will direct you to post your comment on the appropriate thread. Authors may not start topics in reading categories for the purpose of promoting their books. We have threads in the category Authors Corner for that.

B) AUTHORS--We have two distinct conversation houses, Readers, and Authors. If you comment in one of the threads in any of our Reader Categories, do so as an interested reader. Please do not promote your writing, direct members to your writing sites, or post links to your blogs, Social Media, any other Goodreads groups, or any other promotional location holding your writing work. The genre category threads are for readers to talk about the books they have read or are reading. You are very welcome to post any comments there as a reader, but not your writing. Any posts that include the language, "I Write," "My Book[s]," or similar in the Reader Categories will be considered self-promotion, and deleted without notice. Now, the good news: we love our author friends, and want them to have a place that IS for talking about writing--the Author Zone. We have genre discussion threads meant for authors to talk about their writing with authors who understand where other authors are coming from. It's a hospitable place, a home, if you will. Please only discuss your writing in the Authors' Corner. I will delete posts by writers in reader discussions if they promote the writer's work.

C) All reader discussion threads are for readers to talk about reading, not for writers to talk about writing, reviewers to promote their reviews, editors to promote their editing services, group moderators of other groups to promote their groups, or spammers to promote their products. When such posts are found, they will be deleted. Don't waste time writing them. Again, the Authors' Corner has plenty of room for all our members in every facet of the book industry. Please use that great tool to share all your efforts and products. Readers will see them if they are interested, so don't worry about not having exposure if that's what you're looking for. You will have it there.

3. Be communicative:

Post often, share your experiences, talk about books you've read, and share when you've read a book another member mentions. Be responsive to the requests of the Moderators. They are tirelessly at work looking for interesting discussion topics, answering questions, sharing their subject knowledge, and safeguarding discussions against spam, hostility, and disrespectful comments. If they ask you to move a conversation to a more suitable category, or to the Authors' Corner, please follow their suggestion. We work as a highly organized team, a large one, and we discuss all the details of ensuring this group builds in a healthy, safe, and welcoming manner. Moderators have the authority to ask these things of you, so please be responsive, positive, and accommodating of their requests, and please don't argue with them. It won't be tolerated. Organization and effective channels of communication are the backbone of this group, and it's readers are the flesh. The two working in unison will make the group more enjoyable, more welcoming, and more fun for every member.

4. Events:

* Read For Review (R4R)
* Book Of The Month (BOTM)
* Author Of The Month (AOTM)
* Author Interviews
* Freebies
* Monthly and Yearly Reading Challenges
* Reader Games

Thank you for your observation of our policies, and we truly appreciate your membership and your voice. Have fun, and let us know what we can do for you.

Chris Shields,
Modern Good Reads
Founder, Group Moderator, General Discussion and R4R Coordinator.
