I started it yesterday. It is very different from his other stuff, but I expected that. So far I like it very much. It is sweet.

I're read the first chapters on Mike going to Wrykin, then took a break to brush up on my cricket knowledge (currently nil), since it appears it is central to the story. It sure has a lot of rules about hitting a ball with a bat.

I enjoyed the commandeering of the room!! that was funny...

Yes...I know nothing about cricket!! haha

Mike has just met Adair!! uh oh... And the longing for cricket. lol This really is quite a boy story...

Psmith entrance really raised the enjoyment level I got from the book.

Finished, now to put some thoughts down on paper ...

I agree. He is quite the refined gentlemen...so far. lol

Even though I am not a boy, this reminds me so much of school. I love the descriptions of Stone and Robinson. Too much "animal spirit".

I missed the feminine touch in the present novel. So glad I went to a mixed school, even if I ignored the girls at 15 in favor of soccer and hanging out with the boys.

On page 98. Where Jellicoe is in financial straits. There certainly is a lot of cricket...words I don't even understand. But, it is a jaunty little read so far.

The second half of the book does seem to be more of the Wodehouse that we know and love. His humor and flair are all there.

This is one of my favorite Wodehouse books (really mostly the second half, but I liked some aspects of the first half, too). Psmith's got such a slick tongue in his head, it's impossible not to laugh.

A well-written friendship is always a draw for me, too, and Psmith's adoption of Mike / cool indifference toward Mike / attempt to help Mike without Mike knowing / embarrassment when Mike finds out is, like, adorable. They're kind of a wacked-out school-aged Holmes and Watson; lots of fun. I was hoping to make a friend like Psmith in college. Still working on it!

If you enjoyed it try Psmith In the City! (Confession: Everybody likes the last two Psmith books better, but I think he's really at the top of his game in the first two, when he causes strange stuff to happen in mundane settings. In the second two books, strange things happen to him, and it makes him seem slightly more passive and less outrageous.)

Oh yes.. I agree. I would have loved a Psmith in college too. lol
