I am going to post a mythical person, place or thing.

If you know them, post what you know, if you don't and are interested...research and post.

No winners or losers, just a friendly, "I know that one!" kudos will go to you.

The second one of the day: Helios!

Erich Penhoff | 133 comments I hope I am not fishing too far from shore with this one! Helios, deity of the sun under the old Greek mythology, the newer stories out of Athens also call him Hyperion. He also was a instigator known as Titan...I love these old deities...women like Lissa or Alectrona, Aphrodite, but to know them all, you have to be a whiz...I am not!

That is excellent, Erich. Helios was a Titan and he had several names. Thanks so much. If you have one you'd like to see what everyone else knows...post away!

Drako | 91 comments Helios, the Titan of the sun, sometimes replaced by Apollo and at others remaining as the sun and one of the few Titans allied with Zeus. Most notable myth was that in which his son found him and extracted an oath on the river Styxx (making it unbreakable) that he would be allowed to drive the chariot of the sun in place of his father once. The son lost control and Zeus slew him with a thunderbolt when Gaea, the earth, cried out for help after he flew too close to the earth

Shannon McRoberts (shannonmcroberts) Yeah. Helios. Sun god. Titan. Grandfather of Harmonia, Grand Oracle. Can burn Cursed Bloods...oh wait. That is in my book seies lol :) Couldn't resist.

But seriously. Wasn't he also in the Odyssey. Didn't he have some golden sheep? Wasn't he the father of the Cyclops that looked over the sheep? I could have that all wrong.

the father of those cyclops was Poseidon, the sea god. he further punished Odysseus and his crew by forcing them to remain lost at sea for over 10 years

Erich Penhoff | 133 comments ...ten years in the med. Wow, I guess when you are Poseidon you can have them sail in circles...and this at a time when the world was flat and ended at the great rock of Gibraltar..
