Becky (beckycolcord) Welcome to the world of the post-apocalyptic and everything in between!

Here is your thread for introductions. Tell us who you are! What your favorite novel is, genres, likes, dislike, interests, disinterests, hobbies, or pet peeves.

Share it all on this thread and let's get to know one another.

Becky (beckycolcord) As you may know, my name is Becky. I just jumped into my third decade at a ripe age of 20 years old. I am a college student, working my days away as a German major and Professional Writing minor. Should be fun, right?

My favorite novel is Divergent with a close second of The Jewel of St. Petersburg.

My least favorite novel is a tie between The Birthing House and Kissed by an Angel. Very different, yeah, I know!

My weird obsessions, in my head, are not so strange. I have a wild fascination with Russia. My passion and my gift is writing. I surround myself with the smartest people I can find. My musical heroes include Michael Buble, Freddie Mercury, and Frank Sinatra. And I love languages. Not so strange, right?

My hobbies include playing soccer, attending school like a responsible kid, hoping to obtain a bartending license (fingers crossed), and reading.

I only have three pet peeves: 1. People who cannot read maps. It really can't be that difficult. 2. People who drive slow. Our cars were made to go fast, so why slow down? 3. People who persistently cough and refuse to do anything about it.

Well, that's about it. Once again, the name's Becky!

my name is Madeline, I am stuck on dystopian after reading the Hunger Games! I would say my favorite is The Maze Runner, although Birthmarked and Matched are close behind. as for hobbies, at the moment my time consists of reading, and lugging kids to baseball practice. when I do have time I enjoy drawing and painting and being crafty. I love alone time, and despise dishonest people, and parents that don't make their children behave.

Sarah (sarahc123) Hi my name is sarah and have just recently read the Hunger Games trilogy. I had never read anything like this before, now I am reading Darkness Falls (Darkness Falls, #1) by Jessica Sorensen really enjoying it.

message 7: by Holly (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) Hey everyone. I'm Holly, I'm currently studying for my a levels and hoping to do English Literature at Uni next September. Fingers crossed, in a few years I'll hopefully be a librarian in some big old library where I can look at books forever...

While reading has taken a rather backseat in my life recently, with exams and all that, I've recently heavily got back into it.

I have a big love for Classics. I'm currently reading Les Misérables, with Le Morte d'Arthur, Vol. 1 next on my list. However recently science-fiction has caught my interest, with the Enders Game series by Orson Scott Card dragging me in.

Also, feel free to add me as a friend! I'm more than happy to chat to anyone.

Well Jenna, glad to have you!

Hi, I'm Aya. I'm really into sci-fi, urban fantasy, and of course, the dystopian/post-apocalyptic. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood was my first taste of dystopian fiction, and I loved the genre ever since. Right now, I'm waiting for Allegiant.

Glad to be here!

Well glad to have you Aya! I'm definitely going to have to read The Handmaids Tale! I am also waiting for Allegiant. Maybe that's a good topic! What is everyone anticipating?

message 13: by Tyler (new)

Tyler (trogers) | 6 comments Hello all, my name is Tyler and I've only recently discovered the dystopia genre. I've never been one to spend time reading, I've always been pretty active and couldn't stand to sit still for a long period of time. However after reading Hunger Games and few other trilogies, I've become hooked. Its easy reading for me and great way to unwind at the end of my day. In my spare time I love spending time with my wife and surfing.

Happy to have found a group to get feedback from and recommendations.

Becca Sokolosky (becsoko420) | 3 comments Hi my name is Becca and I became obsessed with dystopian and post-apocalyptic novels when I read the Hunger Games trilogy. I also really liked Divergent and Delirium. The Maze Runner trilogy (and prequel) was amazing and a close second to my favorite, the Hunger Games. I mostly read at work (a pediatric clinic) or before bed. My next read will definitely be Allegiant.

Jenna | 2 comments Hello, my name is Jenna. I am currently a student at Liberty University studying psychology and creative writing. I am also part of ministry team that travels all over the US so a large portion of my life is spent on the road in an RV with four other people, even though I have always loved to read, and since becoming part of this team I have found that I crave books even more than I used to. I became fascinated with dystopian novels when I read "Uglies" and the rest of its series by Scott Westerfeld. I love the Hunger Games and don't even get me started on the Divergent series. I absolutely love the book "Partials." Which I have read at least 6 times. :)

nice to meet you Jenna! so what book are you reading now? I loved the Uglies! Such a good series!

Jenna | 2 comments Nice to meet you too :) Right at the moment I am reading Reached from the Matched trilogy :) what are you reading?

that's deff another of my favorite series. Have you read birthmarked? Currently I am reading The Earth Dwellers, and loving it! just wish I had more time to read.

message 19: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Bryan | 1 comments Hi, my name is Michelle and I love anything to do with YA dystopian/post-apocalyptic genre. Like some of you, my first adventure into this exciting world was also The Handmaids Tale many, many years ago and I have been hooked ever since. So much so that I wrote my own version of a future world :). I am offering an excerpt of Awaken: New Bloods Trilogy on Goodreads so please feel free to check it out and give me feedback on what you think. I would love to hear from all of you. Looking forward to some great discussion.

message 20: by Jeremy (new)

Jeremy Gates (jeremygates) Hi, my name is Jeremy. I am a English/Literature major with a minor in religion. I love the Harry Potter series, any mythological work, and any work by Veronica Roth. I really can not pin a favorite genre because all of them point to some aspect of the human conscience, but fantasy and dystopian are the genres I read more of. I am a bit crazy as I liked Divergent more than the Hunger Games (most people give me odd looks).

Madeline (mattyfaye) | 47 comments Mod
Well hello Jeremy! Welcome to the group! I have to admit, I'm probably on the Hunger Games side. Hahaha, but I think I would have to choose The Razorland or Maze Runner series before either one of the others. Welcome aboard, glad to have you!

message 22: by D.L. (new)

D.L. Young Hi, I'm David, a writer of (mostly) dystopian / post-apocalyptic science fiction as D.L. Young. 1984 introduced me to dystopian fiction in high school. I read just about everything, but lots of non-fiction lately.

T.D. (taradon) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Tara. I am an avid reader of almost any genre, but particularly enjoy the dystopian/post-apocalyptic genre. I'm always looking for new recommendations. Like so many, I enjoyed The Hunger Games and Divergent, but may be in the minority that I just didn't love The Maze Runner. :) I also really liked The Testing series and The Selection series.

I write as T.D. Shields and I have a giveaway going for my new book Into Shadow if you're interested.

Amanda Zwambag | 1 comments Hi, my name is Amanda.

I love a wide variety of books; but I have recently became obsessed with Dystopian/Utopian. I enjoyed The Hunger Games, The Testing, The Selection, Matched, Delirium, Divergent, and Legend. I still have a lot more of these books on my radar (Wither, The Maze Runner, Perfect Ruin, The Fire Sermon, Birthmarked, Partials, Red Queen) and will hopefully finish them sooner than later. Looking to find more books in this genre that I have not already come across. I also enjoy Fantasy and Romance novels - anything Jacqueline Carey is more accurate as well as many others.

I enjoy audiobooks now as well - since I don't have much time to myself with raising 2 crazy boys and spending time with my husband. So I find audiobooks on my way to and from work seem to work for me to help me get my book fix.

Emma Lock (emmalock) Hi I'm Emma.

I'm new to goodreads and groups so excited to join this group.

I am a huge lover of reading, some of my favourite books are The Uglies series, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter.. this list could go on. :)

I loved the Divergent series but I disliked the films. I am currently reading the Maze Runner series, not sure on how I feel about it yet.

Emma Lock (emmalock) Jenna wrote: "Hello, my name is Jenna. I am currently a student at Liberty University studying psychology and creative writing. I am also part of ministry team that travels all over the US so a large portion of ..."

I am now going to have to read 'Partials' considering we seem to have the same taste in books. Uglies also got me into this genre!

Geoffrey Pierce | 3 comments Hello, my name is Geoffrey Pierce. I am an English teacher and although I had read post-apocalyptic novels before, such as The Stand, it was The Road that really got me turned on to this genre. I just published my own post-apocalyptic novel, Manna City.

Thanks for having me.

Paul Cristo | 1 comments Salutations!

I'm a great lover of hard science fiction, especially post-apocalyptic procedurals like The Martian and the Breakers series. Does The Langoliers count?

I've also written a post-apocalyptic novel called Deadheading.

I hope everyone is staying well.
